Titans Edged By Pipers In Season Debut

Hamline University (Minn.) pulled away in the fourth and final rotation to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 183.525-181.925, in the season-opening women's gymnastics meet for both teams on Sunday (Jan. 6) in Saint Paul, Minn.

The Pipers led the Titans by less than three-tenths (.275) of a point after three routines and secured the win by outscoring UW-Oshkosh by 1.325 points in the fourth. The meet's fourth rotation featured Hamline University totaling 46.90 points in the floor exercise and UW-Oshkosh 45.575 on the balance beam.

In addition to its score on the balance beam, UW-Oshkosh tallied 45.825 points on the vault, 45.525 in the floor exercise and 45.00 on the uneven bars. Hamline University's other event scores were 46.775 on the balance beam, 45.425 on the vault and 44.425 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh freshman Emily Gilot was outstanding in her collegiate debut as she won the all-around competition with a score of 36.80 and the vault with a value of 9.45. Gilot also finished fifth on the balance beam with a score of 9.325.

The Titans had another freshman win an event title as Olivia Keller captured the top listing on the balance beam with a score of 9.55.

UW-Oshkosh's Jessica Bernardo also had a highly successful meet by finishing second in the all-around competition with 36.20 points, fourth on the vault with 9.425 and sixth on the uneven bars with 9.05.

The Titans owned two of the top three finishers on the uneven bars as freshmen Kaira Hammond placed second and Rahdea Jarvis third with scores of 9.25 and 9.15, respectively. Jarvis also contributed a sixth-place score of 9.225 in the floor exercise.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining top-six finishes belonged to Amira Ali and Bailey Finin. Ali ranked third on the vault with a score of 9.275 while Finin placed fourth in the floor exercise with a figure of 9.425.

Hamline University had two event winners as Lydia Ingram and Darby Slater captured first place on the uneven bars and in the floor exercise, respectively. Ingram owned a winning score of 9.275 and Slater a top mark of 9.675.

UW-Oshkosh competes next Sunday (Jan. 13) at the University of Illinois at Chicago Quadrangular. The meet features the Titans competing against three NCAA Division I opponents in the host Flames, Centenary College (La.) and Kent State University (Ohio).
