Walker Earns Three All-America Awards

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker earned All-America recognition in three categories at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 27-28) in La Crosse.

Walker, the lone UW-Oshkosh competitor at the meet, achieved her All-America awards by finishing fifth in the all-around competition, eighth on the balance beam and ninth in the floor exercise.

The top-six finishers (plus ties) earn All-America First Team accolades while the seventh through 12th-place finishers (plus ties) earn All-America Second Team honors.

Walker totaled 38.025 points in the all-around competition for her third-highest score of the season. The result included season-best scores of 9.675 on the balance beam and 9.475 on the vault. Walker previously finished third in the all-around competition in 2014 and fourth in 2013.

On the balance beam, Walker achieved a score of 9.575. She previously placed second on the apparatus in 2013 and fourth in 2014.

In the floor exercise, Walker tallied 9.65 points to match her second-highest score of the season.

Walker, who was named the West Region's Co-Gymnast of the Year at the NCGA Championship, has captured nine NCGA All-America awards during her career. In addition to three All-America citations in both the all-around competition and on the vault, Walker also owns one All-America mention apiece in the floor exercise, uneven bars and vault.

UW-La Crosse compiled 191.525 points to win its 16th NCGA team title. Finishing a close second to the Eagles with 191.225 points were Ursinus College (Pa.) and two-time defending champion UW-Whitewater.

The College of Brockport (N.Y.) finished fourth in the six-team meet with 190.95 points, while the State University of New York-Cortland placed fifth with 187.975 and UW-Stout sixth with 187.85.

Katie Fiorilli of UW-Whitewater was the meet's individual standout. She recorded winning scores of 38.475 in the all-around competition, 9.85 on the vault and 9.80 on the uneven bars. Fiorilli shared the top performance on the uneven bars with Amy Enright and Samantha Wiekamp of UW-La Crosse and Maddy Scozzie of State University of New York-Cortland.

Abby Clark of Springfield College (Mass.) and Kaylee Jondahl of UW-Stout were the meet's other individual winners. Clark won the balance beam with 9.775 points, while Jondahl took first place in the floor exercise with 9.80.

Lauren Pocius of Springfield College and Cici Talcott of UW-Whitewater were named the NCGA Co-Outstanding Senior Gymnast of the Year. Selected as the NCGA Coach of the Year was UW-La Crosse's Barbara Gibson.

The NCGA also announced its 2015 Academic All-American Team at the championship. The 38-member squad included Leane Blais, Elizabeth Kiel and Hailey Parker from UW-Oshkosh.
