Titans Finish Seventh At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh finished seventh at the WIAC Women's Gymnastics Championship held Sunday (March 15) in St. Paul, Minn.

UW-Whitewater scored 191.75 points to earn its fourth title in six years, while defending champion UW-La Crosse finished second with 190.875. UW-Stout placed third with 187.825 points, Winona State University (Minn.) fourth with 187.675 and host Hamline University (Minn.) fifth with 187.10.

UW-Eau Claire ranked sixth in the eight-team meet with 184.475 points, while UW-Oshkosh finished seventh with 181.625 and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) eighth with 180.825.

UW-Oshkosh reached its overall team score with 45.925 points in the floor exercise, 45.25 on both the uneven bars and vault, and 45.20 on the balance beam. The performance allowed the Titans to surpass an overall score of 181 points for the 11th time in 12 meets.

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker finished fourth in the all-around competition with 37.90 points. Her score included a fourth-place value of 9.525 points on the balance beam and a ninth-place figure of 9.625 points in the floor exercise. Walker also placed 16th on the uneven bars with 9.525 points.

The Titans placed two other gymnasts in the top 30 finishes on both the uneven bars and in the floor exercise.

On the uneven bars, Elizabeth Kiel placed 20th with 9.40 points and Courtney Howard 30th with 9.175. The floor exercise featured Danielle Turner finishing 27th with 9.425 points and Taylor Ennocenti 30th with 9.375.

UW-Oshkosh also had Leane Blais finish 21st on the balance beam and Nicole deRoode 29th on the vault with scores of 9.25 and 9.275, respectively.

UW-Whitewater had three individuals produce first-place finishes at this year's championship, including Courtney Pickett who claimed the all-around competition with 38.30 points.

The Warhawks also received winning scores of 9.775 points on the vault from Katie Fiorilli and Kate Mierow on the balance beam with 9.625.

UW-La Crosse's Amy Enright claimed the uneven bars with a score of 9.850, while UW-Stout's Kaylee Jondahl captured the floor exercise with a value of 9.825.

The top-six individuals in each category secured All-WIAC recognition. 

The WIAC Championship also served as a West Region qualifier for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship that will be held March 27-28 in La Crosse.

UW-Whitewater, UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout all earned spots into the national meet by placing among the top three regional teams.

Walker will represent UW-Oshkosh as an individual qualifier in the balance beam, floor exercise and all-around competition at the NCGA Championship.
