Walker, Blais Capture All-America Gymnastics Awards

UW-Oshkosh's Krystal Walker picked up two more All-America awards during the individual portion of the NCGA Championship held Saturday (March 22) in Ithaca, N.Y.

Walker, who earned All-America first team honors with her third-place finish in Friday's all-around competition, collected her latest citations on the balance beam and uneven bars.

Walker acquired her second All-America first team award of the championship when she posted a fourth-place score of 9.65 on the balance beam. Allyse Dieringer of UW-Whitewater won the event with 9.90 points, while Stephanie Schuler of State University of New York-Brockport finished second with 9.75 and Michaela McCarney-Metropulos of UW-Eau Claire third with 9.725.

Walker and teammate Leane Blais both received All-America second team recognition on the uneven bars. Walker placed eighth on the apparatus with 9.50 points and Blais 12th with 9.275. Dieringer scored 9.80 to win her second event of the meet, while UW-Whitewater teammate Courtney Pickett finished second with 9.775 and Schuler third with 9.725.

Other event winners at the championship were Pickett on the vault with 9.775 points, Kambria Blakely of Hamline University (Minn.) in the floor exercise with 9.90 and Katie Fiorilli of UW-Whitewater in the all-around competition with 38.75.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth with a school-record 188.475 points in the team competition held on Friday. Two-time defending champion UW-Whitewater captured the team title with 193.025 points, while State University of New York-Cortland finished second with 191.0.

The Titans' team score featured season-best marks of 48.65 points in the floor exercise, 47.025 on the uneven bars and 46.725 on the balance beam. UW-Oshkosh, which participated in the team competition for the first time since 2007, also tallied 46.075 points on the vault.

The NCGA also named UW-Whitewater's Jennifer Regan as its Coach of the Year and Hamline University's Courtney Benson as its Outstanding Senior Athlete. UW-Oshkosh's Hannah McCabe and Steffani Meusburger were among 34 gymnasts receiving the NCGA's Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.
