Titans Impressive In Season-Opening Tournament

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team displayed the depth of its roster by dominating the 36-hole Titan Fall Classic held Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 31-Sept 1) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh's entire 11-player roster competed in its home season-opening tournament and together they helped the Titans earn two of the top three listings in the 12-team field.

Led by Erika Priebe's first career victory and the top-six finishes of Hannah Braun and Margherite Pettenuzzo, UW-Oshkosh totaled 655 strokes to successfully defend its team title.

Priebe, who placed fourth at last year's Titan Fall Classic for her previous best finish, recorded a pair of sub-80 rounds in winning this year's title with 156 strokes (12-over-par). Priebe counted 77 strokes on Saturday and 79 on Sunday with the aid of two birdies and a tournament-best 24 pars.

The Titans' victorious squad also featured two-time defending champion Hannah Braun finishing fourth with 162 strokes, Margherite Pettenuzzo sixth with 166, Hanna Rebholz 13th with 177 and Nikki Differt 14th with 180.

Braun, who tallied three birdies and 18 pars, was the fifth-place finisher for the awards ceremony after being edged in a scorecard playoff for fourth place with St. Norbert College's Kayley Sjoholm.

Pettenuzzo accumulated three birdies and 19 pars during the tournament while Rebholz recorded one birdie and nine pars and Differt 13 pars.

UW-Oshkosh's second team entry totaled 710 strokes for second-place tie with St. Norbert College. The Knights were awarded second place for the awards presentation after winning a scorecard playoff with the Titans.

The second group of Titans was paced by Dianna Scheibe's eighth-place score of 173 strokes. The contingent also had Lauryn Davis finish ninth with 174 strokes, Megan Footit 12th with 176, Sophia Mazurek 19th with 187 and Claire Hamburg 41st with 202.

Scheibe had three birdies and 10 pars in the tournament while Footit had three birdies and nine pars, Davis one birdie and 14 pars and Hamburg two birdies.

Mackenzie Retzlaff also participated in the tournament for the Titans and finished 54th with 230 strokes.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were fourth-place UW-La Crosse with 720 strokes, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 724, sixth-place UW-Stevens Point with 767, seventh-place Lakeland University with 769, eighth-place St. Norbert College (B) with 782, ninth-place Marian University with 821 and 10th-place Concordia University Wisconsin with 824.

UW-Platteville's Markie Ash and UW-La Crosse's Maija Tranberg tied for second place among the tournament's 65 golfers with 160 strokes. Ash was ruled the second-place finisher after winning a scorecard playoff with Tranberg.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Wartburg College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 7-8) in Waverly, Iowa.
