Titans Finish Fifth At UW-Whitewater Spring Fling

Senior Kayla Priebe tied for sixth place as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's golf team finished fifth among 16 squads at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling held Friday and Saturday (April 19-20) at the Beloit Cub in Beloit.

Priebe, a four-time All-WIAC performer who was participating in her final collegiate meet, totaled 158 strokes (14-over-par) after recording 18-hole counts of 81 on Friday and 77 on Saturday. Priebe shared sixth place with Alyssa Akiyama of Carleton College (Minn.) but finished seventh in the overall listings after losing a scorecard tiebreaker to Akiyama.

Carleton College's Ziyi Wang captured the individual title with 150 strokes (6-over-par) while UW-Whitewater's Ashley Hofmeister finished second with 152 and both Nina Kouchi of Grinnell College (Iowa) and Ayumi Sakamoto of Carleton College third with 154.

Jordan Koehler of Illinois Wesleyan University placed fifth among the tournament's 84 golfers with 156 strokes and Vidushi Sinha of Grinnell College eighth with 160.

In addition to Kayla Priebe's performance, UW-Oshkosh had Hannah Braun finish 18th with 168 strokes (90-78), Margherite Pettenuzzo 33rd with 176 (89-87), Erika Priebe 35th with 179 (90-89), Dianna Scheibe 41st with 183 (98-85) and Hanna Rebholz 47th with 186 (94-92).

Carleton College, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III by the Women's Golf Coaches Association, tallied 620 strokes (44-over-par) to win the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling by 30 strokes (650) over second-place and seventh-ranked Grinnell College.

UW-Whitewater finished third in the team competition with 652 strokes while 19th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University placed fourth with 658, 20th-ranked UW-Oshkosh fifth with 681, Carthage College sixth with 689 and University of Dubuque (Iowa) seventh with 711. UW-Oshkosh improved its daily team score by 19 strokes after going from 350 on Friday to 331 on Saturday.

UW-Oshkosh closes its regular season next weekend at Augustana College's Viking Invitational. Competition will be held Saturday and Sunday (April 27-28) at the Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
