Titans Earn Runner-up Position At UW-Whitewater Invitational

Led by four top nine individual finishers, UW-Oshkosh placed second among 15 teams at the UW-Whitewater Women's Golf Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 22-23) at The Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove.

UW-Oshkosh reached its runner-up score of 645 strokes (69-over-par) by recording 18-hole results of 325 on Saturday and 320 on Sunday. The Titans' daily score was the second lowest both days of the tournament.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Kayla Priebe, who finished second with 154 strokes (10-over-par). Priebe tallied 76 strokes Saturday and 78 Sunday.

The Titans also had Erika Priebe place fifth with 160 strokes (16-over-par), Hannah Braun eighth with 165 (21-over-par) and Margherite Pettenuzzo ninth with 166 (22-over-par). Braun reduced her score from Saturday to Sunday by 11 strokes (88-77), vaulting from a 27th-place listing into eighth place.

UW-Whitewater owned five of the top 11 golfers to claim first place in the team category with 635 strokes (59-over-par). The Warhawks achieved the best daily score with 316 strokes Saturday and 319 Sunday.

Carthage College finished third in the team standings with 675 strokes, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 696, University of St. Francis (Ill.) fifth with 699 and Lake Forest College (Ill.) sixth with 720. 

UW-Whitewater's Ashley Hofmeister captured the individual title with 149 strokes (5-over-par). She marked scores of 74 Saturday and 75 Sunday.

UW-Eau Claire's Allison Chromniak finished third among the tournament's 90 golfers with 155 strokes while UW-Whitewater's CheyAnn Knudsen and Ashton Sinak placed fourth and fifth with 156 and 160 strokes, respectively.

Other UW-Oshkosh results had Keara Richards finishing 29th with 180 strokes and Hanna Rebholz 44th with 187.

UW-Oshkosh participates next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 29-30) at the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Stevens Point Country Club.
