Titans Open Season With Record-Breaking Victory

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team set a pair of event records in winning the 36-hole Titan Classic held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 1-2) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh defeated nine other programs during its season-opening performance by achieving record-breaking results for both 18 and 36 holes of the tournament.

The Titans established the event's 18-hole record with their 316 strokes (24-over-par) on Saturday. Following 318 strokes (26-over-par) on Sunday, UW-Oshkosh set the tournament's 36-hole mark with its count of 634 strokes (50-over-par).

Defending Titan Classic champion UW-Stout finished second to UW-Oshkosh in the team standings with 655 strokes (71-over-par). The Blue Devils were followed by third-place UW-River Falls with 712 strokes, fourth-place St. Norbert College with 715 and fifth-place UW-La Crosse with 725.

UW-Oshkosh swept the top two individual listings as defending champion Hannah Braun placed first with 154 strokes (8-over-par) and 2016 champion Kayla Priebe second with 156 (10-over-par).

Braun compiled 77 strokes each 18-hole round and finished the tournament with three birdies and an event-leading 23 pars.

Priebe led all golfers after Saturday's competition with 74 strokes. She then totaled 82 strokes on Sunday to finish two shots behind Braun. Priebe concluded the tournament with three birdies and 20 pars.

The Titans also had freshman Erika Priebe share fourth place with UW-Stout's Marie Allo. Both golfers tallied 161 strokes (15-over-par), with Priebe reaching her score with the help of a tournament-best five birdies and 14 pars.

UW-Stout's Alexa Filipiak finished third among the event's 70 golfers with 160 strokes (14-over-par).

In addition to Braun and the Priebe sisters, UW-Oshkosh had freshman Margherite Pettenuzzo finish sixth with 163 strokes, Hanna Rebholz seventh with 167, Dianna Scheibe 22nd with 181 and Ireland Dunne 25th with 182. Rebholz matched Erika Priebe by totaling a tournament-best five birdies, including four in succession. 

Other UW-Oshkosh results had Keara Richards placing 28th with 183 strokes, Sophia Mazurek 41st with 190, Claire Hamburg 59th with 208 and Mackenzie Retzlaff 64th with 241.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Wartburg College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 8-9) in Waverly, Iowa.
