Titans Open Women’s Golf Season With Home Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team commences the 2018-19 season with the Titan Classic on Sept. 1-2 at the Oshkosh Country Club.

The season-opening home tournament starts a string of five events leading up to the WIAC Championship as the Titans seek their second NCAA Division III Championship appearance in four seasons and fourth overall.

Last season UW-Oshkosh finished second to UW-Stout by nine strokes (666-675) at the 12-team Titan Classic. Illinois Wesleyan University placed third with 678 strokes and UW-Eau Claire fourth with 690.

This year's 11-team Titan Classic also features golfers from Edgewood College, Lakeland University, Marian University, St. Norbert College, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout.

UW-Oshkosh then travels to the Wartburg College Invitational on Sept. 8-9 in Waverly, Iowa, before playing in the Division III Classic on Sept. 15-16 in Lake City, Minn. The Titans finished 11th among 20 squads at last year's Wartburg College Invitational and return to the Division III Classic for the first time since placing eighth of 17 teams at the 2016 event.

Completing the fall portion of UW-Oshkosh's regular season schedule are the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Cottage Grove, the Mad Dawg Invitational on Sept. 29-30 in Stevens Point and the WIAC Championship on Oct. 5-7 in Reedsburg.

UW-Oshkosh placed third at last year's 13-team Mad Dawg Invitational and voyage back to the UW-Whitewater Invitational after finishing second among 15 teams in 2016.

The Titans were third at the WIAC Championship last season with a three-day score of 962. UW-Whitewater captured the league title with 942 strokes to outpace runner-up UW-Stout's total of 959.

Rounding out last year's WIAC Championship standings were fourth-place UW-Eau Claire with 983 strokes, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 1,042, sixth-place UW-River Falls with 1,048 and UW-Stevens Point with 1,114.

UW-Oshkosh seventh-year head coach Liza Ruetten welcomes back eight letter winners, including All-WIAC performers Hannah Braun and Kayla Priebe. Braun, a junior, earned first team honors a year ago and second team plaudits in 2016. Priebe, a senior, was named to the all-league second team last year after receiving the 2016 WIAC Player of the Year award in 2016 and first team recognition in 2015.

Priebe and Braun placed third and 10th, respectively, at last year's WIAC Championship. Braun claimed medalist honors at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic and finished 10th at the Wartburg College Invitational last season. Priebe added a pair of top 10 finishes last year, placing fifth at the Mad Dawg Invitational and sixth at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational.

Other returning letter winners for the Titans are sophomores Claire Hamburg and Keara Richards; juniors Sophia Mazurek, Hanna Rebholz and Dianna Scheibe; and senior Ireland Dunne. Rebholz and Scheibe finished 22nd; Dunne 28th; Richards 33rd; and Mazurek 37th at last year's WIAC Championship.

UW-Oshkosh, which claimed WIAC titles in 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2015-16, begins practice for its 2018-19 season on Aug. 23.

The spring portion of UW-Oshkosh's schedule begins in April.
