Ruetten Attends NCAA's Women Coaches Academy

UW-Oshkosh head women's golf coach Liza Ruetten was among 48 Division I, II and III female coaches who attended the NCAA's Women Coaches Academy (WCA) from May 30 - June 2 in Englewood, Colo.

The Alliance of Women Coaches sponsored the event and selected the participants for its four days of non-sport specific educational training. The 44th class of the WCA was balanced by sport, division, position and experience level.

"The conference was one of the most challenging and empowering conferences I have been fortunate enough to attend during my 20-plus years in the educational community," said Ruetten. "The ability to network and meet other NCAA divisional coaches across all sports was the trip of a lifetime. Sessions included strategies for successfully navigating the coaching profession, character coaching and team culture creation. The personal and professional knowledge I gained during the four days provided me with valuable insight into today's youth and our student-athlete communities."

Since the first WCA session in 2003, nearly 1,700 women have graduated from the 44 Academies. The main objective of each Academy is to enhance skill development, retention, mentoring and collaboration.

UW-Oshkosh assistant women's basketball coach Kelly McNiff was a member of the 41st Academy held in 2017.
