Inclement Weather Forces Titans To Withdraw From Niepagen Spring Fling

Due to the anticipation of inclement weather and poor travel conditions in northern Illinois and Wisconsin, the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team withdrew from the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling following Saturday's (April 14) competition at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

A large amount of snow is expected to cover the Upper Midwest Region on Sunday (April 15) and UW-Oshkosh head coach Liza Ruetten determined that it would be in the best interest of her team to return to Oshkosh before the snow arrived.

UW-Oshkosh ranked 13th among the 18 teams following Saturday's 18-hole activity with 348 strokes (60-over-par) while host Illinois Wesleyan University listed first with 309 (21-over-par).

Micayla Richards led UW-Oshkosh on Saturday with her 83 strokes (11-over-par). Titans Hannah Braun and Keara Richards both tallied 87 shots, while Dianna Scheibe counted 91 and Hanna Rebholz 93.

Rylie Loux of Illinois Wesleyan University paced all 100 golfers on Saturday with 73 strokes (1-over-par).

Illinois Wesleyan University went on to win the 36-hole tournament with 629 strokes (53-over-par). DePauw University (Ind.) and Huntingdon College (Ala.) shared second place with 639 strokes (63-over-par) while Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) finished fourth with 641 (65-over-par) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) fifth with 647 (71-over-par).

Loux maintained her first-day advantage and captured the individual title with 152 strokes (8-over-par). McKenzie Swanson of Gustavus Adolphus College finished second with 153 strokes (9-over-par) and CheyAnn Knudsen of UW-Whitewater and Jordan Koehler of Illinois Wesleyan University both third with 155 (11-over-par).

UW-Oshkosh is scheduled to compete next Friday and Saturday (April 20-21) at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling in Beloit.
