Titans Finish Third At WIAC Championship

Kayla Priebe, Micayla Richards and Hannah Braun recorded top 10 scores as UW-Oshkosh finished third at the WIAC Women's Golf Championship held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 6-8) at the Reedsburg Country Club in Reedsburg.

UW-Oshkosh was in third place throughout the 54-hole tournament and concluded play with 962 strokes (98-over-par). The Titans tallied 324 strokes on Friday and 319 on both Saturday and Sunday to earn its fourth consecutive top-three finish at the WIAC Championship. UW-Oshkosh won the event in 2015 and placed second a year ago.

UW-Whitewater was second to defending champion UW-Stout following Saturday's competition and overcame a three-stroke deficit by outscoring the Blue Devils, 311-331, on Sunday to capture its first WIAC title since 1999 and third overall.

The Warhawks won this year's championship with 942 strokes (78-over-par) while UW-Stout finished second with 959 (95-over-par). The victory gave UW-Whitewater the WIAC's automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 8-11 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Following third-place UW-Oshkosh in the team standings were fourth-place UW-Eau Claire with 983 strokes, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 1,042, sixth-place UW-River Falls with 1,048 and seventh-place UW-Stevens Point with 1,114.

Priebe led UW-Oshkosh with her third-place count of 235 strokes (19-over-par). Priebe, who accumulated three birdies and 32 pars, totaled 80 strokes on both Friday and Saturday and 75 on Sunday. She previously finished second at the WIAC Championship in 2015 and third in 2016.

Richards and Braun achieved their top 10 listings for the Titans by placing sixth with 238 (22-over-par) and 10th with 241 strokes (25-over-par), respectively. Richards had daily scores of 75, 82 and 81 and Braun daily values of 85, 77 and 79. Richards, who led all golfers after Friday's competition, concluded the tournament with three birdies and 31 pars while Braun had 31 pars.

UW-Whitewater owned the top two finishers as CheyAnn Knudsen placed first with 233 strokes (17-over-par) and defending WIAC champion Ashley Hofmeister second with 234 (18-over-par).

Rachel Hernandez of UW-Stout and Maddie McCue of UW-Whitewater shared fourth place among the tournament's 52 golfers with 236 strokes (20-over-par). Hernandez led Knudsen and UW-Stout's Tristin Kluess by one stroke heading into Sunday's activity.

UW-Oshkosh also had Hanna Rebholz and Dianna Scheibe share 22nd place with 257 strokes, Ireland Dunne finish 28th with 261, Keara Richards 33rd with 266, Sophia Mazurek 37th with 278 and Michelle Lodholz 46th with 288. Richards had three birdies in the tournament while Rebholz had 27 pars and Scheibe 26.

UW-Stout head coach Howie Samb was selected the WIAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and seventh time in nine years. UW-Stout's Rachel Hernandez was named the recipient of the league's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.

UW-Oshkosh's next competition will be in April.
