Titans Produce Third-Place Finish At Mad Dawg Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team improved its daily score by 14 strokes to earn third pace at the Mad Dawg Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 30 - Oct. 1) at the Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point.

UW-Stout held a 12-stroke lead over both UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater coming into Sunday's action and wound up winning the tournament, 657-660, over both the Titans and the Warhawks. UW-Stout, the defending WIAC champion, posted 18-hole scores of 325 on Saturday and 332 on Sunday to finish the 13-team event at 73-over-par.

UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater both put pressure on UW-Stout by recording 323 strokes on Sunday after totaling identical scores of 337 on Saturday. UW-Whitewater won a tiebreaker over UW-Oshkosh to claim the second-place award and lower the Titans to third place.

Rounding out the top five teams were fourth-place Viterbo University with 674 strokes and fifth-place UW-Eau Claire with 682.

UW-Oshkosh had two players finish in the four as Micayla Richards shared second place with UW-Stout's Rachel Hernandez and Kayla Priebe shared fourth place with Viterbo University's Danielle Ducklow. Richards and Priebe both lost tiebreakers to place third and fifth in the tournament, respectively.

Richards tallied 157 strokes (11-over-par) after improving her daily score from 81 to 76 while Priebe accumulated 159 strokes (13-over-par) after counting 79 shots on Saturday and 80 on Sunday.

UW-Whitewater's Ashley Hofmeister defeated 72 other golfers with her first-place stroke count of 155 (9-over-par). Hofmeister had daily scores of 76 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.

The Titans also had Hannah Braun finish 11th with 168 strokes, Keara Richards 29th with 176, Dianna Scheibe 38th with 181, Hanna Rebholz 46th with 183, Ireland Dunne 53rd with 189, Sophia Mazurek 55th with 190, Michelle Lodholz 62nd with 203 and Claire Hamburg 73rd with 227.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its fall schedule at this weekend's WIAC Championship in Reedsburg. Competition will be held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 6-8) at the Reedsburg Country Club.
