School Record Helps Titans Place Fifth At Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational

A school-record score on the first day of competition helped UW-Oshkosh finish fifth out of 17 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan University Women's Golf Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 16-17) at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh led all of its opponents after Saturday's action with its 18-hole team record of 304 strokes. The Titans broke their previous school mark of 306 strokes (set Sept. 20 on the first day of the 2003 Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational) with the scores of 73 from Hannah Braun, 75 from Kayla Priebe, 77 from Micayla Richards and 79 from Hanna Rebholz.

The Titans then totaled 322 strokes on Sunday to finish the tournament with a fifth-place score of 626 (50-over-par). UW-Oshkosh led all teams by averaging 5.13 strokes on par 5 holes while ranking second in birdies with 15.

Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) registered matching daily scores of 305 strokes to bypass UW-Oshkosh and hold off Illinois Wesleyan University for the team title. Washington University captured first place with 610 strokes (34-over-par) while Illinois Wesleyan University finished second with 612 (36-over-par), including a tournament low 291 on Sunday.

DePauw University (Ind.) placed third with 618 strokes while Grinnell College (Iowa) ranked fourth with 623.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place UW-Whitewater with 633 strokes, seventh-place Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) with 638, eighth-place Olivet College (Mich.) with 642, ninth-place Illinois Wesleyan University (B) with 648 and 10th-place Hanover College (Ind.) with 652.

UW-Oshkosh placed three golfers in the top 18 of the individual competition as Priebe finished sixth with 150 strokes (6-over-par), Braun 11th with 152 (8-over-par) and Keara Richards 18th with 157 (13-over-par). Braun shared the tournament lead with seven birdies while Priebe followed with six.

The Titans also had Micayla Richards finish 31st with 161 strokes, Ireland Dunne 46th with 165 and Rebholz 57th with 167.

Vidushi Sinha of Grinnell College took the individual title with 141 strokes (3-under-par). She recorded impressive scores of 71 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday.

Three players shared second place among the 100 golfers as Samantha Haubenstock of Washington University, Larisa Luloff of DePauw University and Vrishali Sinha of Grinnell College all accumulated 148 strokes (4-over-par).

Rylie Loux of Illinois Wesleyan University finished fifth with 149 strokes, including 72 on Sunday.
