Titans' Golf Schedule Begins On Home Course

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team opens the 2017-18 season at home as the Titans seek their second NCAA Division III Championship appearance in three years.

UW-Oshkosh, which won the WIAC title in 2015-16 and finished second in the league last year, hosts the Titan Classic this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 2-3) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh has won the past two Titan Classics, cruising to a victory by 23 strokes over runner-up UW-Stout a year ago and 35 over second-place Viterbo University in 2015.

Titan junior Kayla Priebe is the defending individual champion at the Titan Classic while sophomore Hannah Braun finished third, senior Micayla Richards seventh and senior Ireland Dunne ninth. Priebe also placed second at the Titan Classic in 2015.

UW-Oshkosh's fall schedule also features invitational tournaments in Iowa, Illinois and Stevens Point before they attempt to dethrone reigning league winner UW-Stout at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 6-8 in Reedsburg.

Following the season-opening Titan Classic, UW-Oshkosh travels to Waverly, Iowa, for the Wartburg College Invitational on Sept. 9-10. The Titans then journey to Normal, Ill., for the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational on Sept. 16-17 before competing at the Mad Dawg Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Stevens Point.

Last season, the Titans placed fourth among 14 teams at the Wartburg College Invitational and second in a field of 11 squads at the Mad Dawg Invitational. UW-Oshkosh is returning to the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational for the first time since 2008.

UW-Oshkosh sixth-year head coach Liza Ruetten welcomes back six letter winners, including Priebe – the 2016-17 WIAC Player of the Year – and Braun, who achieved All-WIAC second team status last season.

Priebe finished in the top 10 during six of her seven tournaments last season. In addition to claiming medalist honors at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic, Priebe also placed second at the Mad Dawg Invitational, third at both the UW-Whitewater Invitational and WIAC Championship, ninth at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling, and 10th at the NCAA Division III Classic.

Braun's rookie collegiate season included a seventh-place finish at the WIAC Championship.

At last year's WIAC Championship, UW-Oshkosh headed into the third and final day atop the leaderboard. However, UW-Stout overcame a five-stroke deficit and eked past the Titans by five shots (980-985) to secure the WIAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship as UW-Oshkosh was vying to win consecutive league titles for the first time since 2003.

Completing the finishes at the WIAC Championship a year ago were third-place UW-Whitewater (1,005 strokes), fourth-place UW-Eau Claire (1,033), fifth-place UW-Platteville (1,061), sixth-place UW-River Falls (1,102) and seventh-place UW-Stevens Point (1,114).
