Titans Take Seventh Place In Minnesota

UW-Oshkosh tuned up for its upcoming appearance at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship by finishing seventh at the 11-team Carleton College Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (April 30 – May 1) at the Bellwood Oaks Golf Club in Hastings, Minn.

The Titans, who captured the WIAC Championship last fall, were playing in the last of their three spring tournaments. The next competition for UW-Oshkosh will be at the NCAA Championship on May 10-13 in Houston, Texas. The Titans previously competed at the NCAA Championship in 2003 and 2004.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 682 strokes at Carleton College Invitational. The Titans tallied 18-hole scores of 349 on Saturday and 333 on Sunday.

Carleton College took first place in the team standings with 644 strokes, 60-over-par. The Knights recorded daily scores of 326 on Saturday and a tournament-best 318 on Sunday.

The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) placed second with 648 strokes, while Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) ranked third with 651, and both St. Catherine University (Minn.) and Wartburg College (Iowa) fourth with 658.

UW-Oshkosh owned three of the meet's top 29 golfers, as McKenzie Paul finished 20th with 166 strokes, Kayla Priebe 26th with 169 and Laura Stair 29th with 171. All three golfers improved their score from the first day to the second, including Paul who reduced her count by six strokes (86-80) and Stair by five (88-83).

The Titans also had Samantha Kuik place 43rd with 177 strokes and Micayla Richards 44th with 178.

Carleton College's Grace Gilmore claimed the individual title with 157 strokes, 11-over-par. Gilmore defeated her 59 other competitors by posting daily scores of 80 on Saturday and 77 on Sunday.

Kaitlyn Alvarez of St. Catherine University and Ziyi Wang of Carleton College tied for second place with 158 strokes while University of St. Thomas golfers Rachel Morris and Emily Thul shared fourth place with 159.
