Titans Open Spring Schedule With 13th-Place Finish

UW-Oshkosh opened its spring women's golf schedule with a 13th-place finish at the 21-team Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling held Saturday and Sunday (April 16-17) at the Inwood Golf Course in Joiet, Ill.

The Titans, who were playing their first event since winning the WIAC Championship last October, totaled 657 strokes for the 36-hole tournament. UW-Oshkosh recorded 18-hole scores of 330 on Saturday and 327 on Sunday.

NAIA member Indiana Tech and tournament host Illinois Wesleyan University shared first place in the team standings with 614 strokes, 38-over-par. Indiana Tech tallied 307 strokes on each day of the tournament while Illinois Wesleyan University counted 302 strokes on Saturday and 312 on Sunday.

DePauw University (Ind.) ranked third in the team category with 619 strokes, while Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) placed fourth with 620 and Wittenberg University (Ohio) fifth with 622.

UW-Oshkosh's McKenzie Paul and Laura Stair, along with LeeAnn Cahoon of Huntingdon College (Ala.) and Macy Hubbard of Wittenberg University, shared 30th place in the individual competition with 160 strokes.

Paul totaled 81 strokes on Saturday and 79 on Sunday while Stair compiled 82 strokes on Saturday and 78 on Sunday. Stair registered five birdies to lead the Titans, while Paul had a team-best 21 pars.

Vrishall Sinha of Grinnell College (Iowa) captured the individual title with an even-par score of 144 strokes. Sinha posted daily scores of 74 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday.

Courtney Dye of Indiana Tech finished second among the tournament's 109 golfers with 146 strokes. Danielle Ellis of Illinois Wesleyan University and Maggie Smith of Wittenberg University shared third place with 147 strokes.

The Titans also had Micayla Richards finish 68th with 169 strokes, Kayla Priebe 81st with 172 and Samantha Kuik 94th with 180.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling next Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) in Delavan.
