Titans Finish Fifth At UW-Whitewater Spring Fling

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team improved its daily performance by 14 strokes to finish fifth at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling held Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) at the Delbrook Golf Club in Delavan.

UW-Oshkosh nipped sixth-place UW-Whitewater by one shot after totaling 662 strokes for the 36-hole tournament. The Titans posted 18-hole scores of 338 on Friday and 324 on Saturday.

Wartburg College (Iowa) captured the team title with 624 strokes, 40-over-par. The Knights had the lowest score each day, totaling 315 strokes on Friday and 309 on Saturday.

Carthage College finished second among the 16 teams with 632 strokes. The Lady Reds were followed by third-place Hope College (Mich.) with 646 strokes and fourth-place Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) with 649.

UW-Oshkosh's McKenzie Paul shared 16th place among the tournament's 81 golfers with Morgan Leep of Hope College and Molly McDonough of Wartburg College. Paul totaled 162 strokes, 81 on each day of the competition.

Brooke Kostermann of Wartburg College claimed the individual title with 150 strokes, four-over-par. She had daily scores of 76 and 74.

Rochelle Beardsley of Wartburg College, Julia DeBelly of Trine University (Ind.) and Sarah Lyman of Carthage College all tied for second place with 155 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh also had Kayla Priebe and Laura Stair tie for 23rd place with 165 strokes, Micayla Richards finish 31st with 170 and Amanda Pederson rank 35th with 172.

The Titans will compete at the Carleton College Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (April 30-May 1) in Hastings, Minn.
