Titans Aim For Fourth WIAC Women's Golf Title

UW-Oshkosh seeks its fourth title in program history at this weekend's WIAC Women's Golf Championship in Nekoosa.

Individuals will play 54 holes over a period of three days at the Lake Arrowhead Golf Course. Competition in the league's 20th annual event begins on Friday (Oct. 9) and concludes on Sunday (Oct. 11).

The team champion from the WIAC Championship will earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held next May in Houston, Texas.

UW-Oshkosh last won the league championship in 2003. The Titans also captured conference crowns in 2000 and 2002.

Last season, UW-Stout secured its second WIAC title in program history with 966 strokes. UW-Eau Claire finished second with 1,000 strokes, while UW-Oshkosh placed third with 1,051, UW-Whitewater fourth with 1,054, UW-Platteville fifth with 1,071, UW-River Falls sixth with 1,105 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 1,135.

The UW-Oshkosh lineup boasts five individuals who own a sub-90 stroke average. McKenzie Paul has a league-best 80.1 stroke average and recorded second-place finishes at the Viterbo University Invitational and the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational. She is a two-time All-WIAC first team selection after placing fourth at the league championship the past two seasons.

Kayla Priebe is second on the Titans with an 82.6 stroke average. She finished second at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational and third at the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational. Laura Stair claimed medalist honors at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational and has an 85.1 stroke average.

Expected to round out the UW-Oshkosh lineup are Micayla Richards, who averages 86.5 strokes per round, and Samantha Kuik, who averages 88.6.

At last year's WIAC Championship, Richards finished 19th with 264 strokes, while Stair placed 22nd with 267 and Kuik 42nd with 298. Kuik also ranked 38th with 290 strokes at the 2013 WIAC Championship.

Titans Ireland Dunne and Amanda Pederson will be competing as individuals at the WIAC Championsip. Dunne is averaging 90.8 strokes per round and Pederson 93.5

UW-Eau Claire owns a conference-best nine championships, including stretches of three straight from 2004-06 and 2009-11. UW-Stevens Point and the Titans are next with three league titles, followed by UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater with two apiece.

There will be a new individual winner this season following the graduation of two-time defending champion Kate Engler from UW-Eau Claire.

Lake Arrowhead Golf Course features a Pines Course and Lakes Course, both playing at par-73. Competitors will play the first and third rounds at the Pines Course and the second round at the Lakes Course.
