Stair, Titans Win UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic Titles

Laura Stair captured the individual title to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team to a first-place finish in a 10-team meet the Titans hosted Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 5-6) at the Oshkosh Country Club.

UW-Oshkosh won its season-opening event with a 36-hole score of 646. The Titans, who claimed their first UW-Oshkosh Invitational title since 2005, totaled 325 strokes on the first day of competition and 321 on the second.

Two-time defending champion Viterbo University finished second to UW-Oshkosh with 681 strokes. The V-Hawks were second to UW-Oshkosh by 12 strokes after Saturday's competition.

UW-Eau Claire took third in the team standings with 707 strokes, defending WIAC champion UW-Stout fourth with 718, Carroll University fifth with 721 and St. Norbert College sixth with 751.

Marian University finished seventh with 778 strokes, UW-Stevens Point eighth with 786, UW-River Falls ninth with 812 and Edgewood College 10th with 925.

Stair, who finished fourth in last year's tournament, placed first among this year's 57 golfers with 157 strokes, 11-over par. Aided by three birdies and 20 pars, Stair posted daily scores of 76 and 81.

UW-Oshkosh's Kayla Priebe finished second to Stair by just one stroke. Priebe finished the tournament with 158 strokes after totaling 83 on the first day of competition and 75 on the second. She had one birdie and a tournament-best 22 pars.

Rachel Hernandez of UW-Stout placed third with 162 strokes, Heather Zuleger of Viterbo University fourth with 163 and McKenzie Paul of UW-Oshkosh fifth with 163. Zuleger earned fourth place by winning a tiebreaker over Paul, who recorded a tournament-best five birdies.

UW-Oshkosh also had Samantha Kuik finish ninth and Ireland Dunne 11th with 171 strokes, Micayla Richards 12th with 172, and Amanda Pederson 30th with 193. Richards concluded the tournament with four birdies while Dunne marked a pair of birdies and 13 pars.

The Oshkosh Country Club played to a par of 73.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Viterbo University Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 12-13) in Onalaska.
