Women's Golf Team Opens Season With Home Invitational

UW-Oshkosh begins its 2015 women's golf season by hosting a 10-team invitational this weekend at the Oshkosh Country Club. Golfers will play 18 holes on each of the two days of the tournament, starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 5) and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 6).

Joining the Titans in their only home event of the season are golfers from Carroll University, Edgewood College, Marian University, St. Norbert College, UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and last year's UW-Oshkosh Invitational winner Viterbo University. UW-Oshkosh finished second at its own invitational last season, while UW-Stout went on to capture the WIAC championship.

The Titans follow their season opener with tournaments hosted by Viterbo University on Sept. 12-13, UW-Whitewater on Sept. 25-26 and UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 3-4. UW-Oshkosh concludes the season at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 9-11 at the Lake Arrowhead Golf Course in Nekoosa.

Fourth-year head coach Liza Ruetten welcomes back four letter winners from last season, including two-time All-WIAC first team honoree McKenzie Paul.

During last year's regular season, UW-Oshkosh placed fourth of nine teams at the Viterbo University Invitational, seventh of 13 teams at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, and fourth of 14 teams at the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational. Viterbo University won its own tournament, while Hope College (Mich.) took first place at the UW-Whitewater Invitational and UW-Stout at the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational.

Samantha Kuik, Micayla Richards and Laura Stair join Paul in returning to the Titans this season. The team also welcomes freshmen Ireland Dunne, Amanda Pederson and Kayla Priebe.

Paul tied for second place among 79 players at the UW-Stevens Point Mad Dawg Invitational. She also tied for third place among 80 golfers at the UW-Whitewater Invitational and took fourth place among 54 players at the Viterbo University Invitational.

UW-Oshkosh placed third of seven teams at last season's WIAC Championship. Paul led the Titans in the 54-hole tournament with a fourth-place score of 243.
