Titans Finish Sixth In Own Invitational
Mary Welch sunk a hole-in-one during her final-round 72 as
UW-Stevens Point won the UW-Oshkosh Women's Golf Invitational held
Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 10-11) at Oshkosh Country Club.
The Pointers captured the 36-hole tournament with 667 strokes, 83
over par. Carroll University finished second with 669 strokes,
while Carthage College place third with 673, UW-Whitewater fourth
with 675 and UW-Platteville fifth with 724. UW-Oshkosh finished
fifth in the eight-team event with 727 strokes.
Welch went under par by one stroke during her final 18 holes to
take individual honors with a score of 153. Her ace from the par
three, 14th tee proved to be the winning margin.
Carthage’s Erin Holst earned second with a total of 155 (9
over par), as UW-Whitewater’s Nicole Westcott took third at
161. Fourth place went to Carthage’s Taylor McAdams (164),
while fifth (166) was shared by UW-Platteville’s Ellyn Subak
and Carroll’s Erin Sullivan. Sullivan also hit the jackpot on
the 14th hole, recording a hole-in-one.
Kim Sippl (Sr. • Omro), who posted an 84 on Saturday, took
19th place to lead UW-Oshkosh. The Titans also received a
27th-place score of 179 from Sarah Sheldon (So. • Janesville),
a 33rd-place standing (185) from Theresa Henke (So. •
Wisconsin Rapids), a 39th-place total of 189 from Andrea
Kirchenwitz (Fr. • Sheboygan) and a 48th-place mark of 209 by
Coree Georgenson (Jr. • Stevens Point).
A total of 55 players competed in the event, which was played on a
par-73 course that measured 5,845 yards.
UW-Oshkosh travels to Berlin next weekend to compete at the Ripon
College Invitational. The event begins Saturday (Sept. 17) and
concludes on Sunday (Sept. 18) at the Mascoutin Country Club.
