Bio

No stranger to UW-Oshkosh women's basketball, former Titan Madeline Staples returned to the program as a full-time assistant coach for the 2021-22 season. Staples, hired in August 2021, enters her third season on the UW-Oshkosh sidelines under head coach Brad Fischer in 2023-24.

Staples, who played basketball for UW-Oshkosh from 2015-18, spent the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Division II Lindenwood University (Mo.).

During the 2019-20 season, Staples assisted in the guidance of the Lions to a 19-9 record and a fifth-place finish (14-6 record) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lindenwood University received an at-large bid to the Division II Championship, but the Lions' first-round game at Drury University (Mo.) was canceled due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Staples helped create an efficient offense for Lindenwood University immediately, as the Lions ranked second in the 16-team GLVC during the 2019-20 season in both scoring per game (77.6) and field goal percentage (.455) and third in both assists per game (16.54) and assist/turnover ratio (1.01). During an abbreviated 2020-21 season, Lindenwood University compiled an 11-9 record and finished third in the GLVC's Central Division as all of its games were league contests. The Lions led the GLVC in offensive rebounds per game (13.35) while ranking fourth in 3-point field goals per contest (7.05).

Staples attended UW-Milwaukee for two years before transferring to UW-Oshkosh for a highly successful basketball career under Fischer's leadership. Staples appeared in 98 games for UW-Oshkosh, totaling 376 points, 301 rebounds, 53 assists and 52 steals while helping the Titans to a 93-23 record, three NCAA Division III postseason appearances (third round in 2017), two WIAC tournament titles and one WIAC regular season championship.

Staples graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from UW-Oshkosh in 2017. The two-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member played as a graduate student for the Titans in 2018 before serving as a graduate assistant coach under Fischer the following year. UW-Oshkosh compiled a 26-4 record during the 2018-19 season while winning WIAC regular season and tournament titles and participating in the third round of the Division III Championship.

Staples is a 2012 graduate of Middleton High School. She earned four varsity letters in basketball and helped the Cardinals to the WIAA Division 1 final in 2011, the semifinals in 2012 and 2009, and the quarterfinals in 2010. Staples played in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 1 All-Star Game in 2012.

Staples, who received her master's degree in educational leadership from UW-Oshkosh in 2018, was an assistant coach for the 2021 Wisconsin GLO professional women's basketball team that captured its second straight Global Women's Basketball Association championship.
