Titans Drop Battle Against Blugolds

OSHKOSH, Wis.—Jenna Jorgensen led the Titans with 10 points as the (RV) UW-Oshkosh Titans (9-4, 0-3 WIAC) fell to the No. 9/17 UW-Eau Claire Blugolds (12-2, 3-0 WIAC), 53-62.

Jorgensen was four-of-six from the field and two-of-two from behind the arc for the Titans. Jorgensen added seven rebounds and three steals in the contest. Kayce Vaile went three-of-seven from the field and two-of-two from the line for eight points in the contest. Vaile led the Titans with 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Titans went 29 percent from the field (17-of-58), while making 12-of-14 free throws (85.7%). The Titans were outrebounded by three, grabbing 32 rebounds. With four steals, the Titans added seven assists and two blocks.

Game Summary

Sarah Hardwick answered an opening 3-pointer from the Blugolds, tying the game up early at three. Jorgensen gave the Titans a 5-3 lead after collecting a defensive board. The Blugolds went on a 12-3 run in the first quarter as the Titans only points came from the free throw line. Avery Poole hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Kennedy Osterman with 39 seconds remaining to trim the lead to four. 

Hardwick mirrored the first quarter, answering a Blugold 3-pointer with one of her one for the Titans. Vaile grabbed an offensive board and made a layup, bringing the Titans with two at 18-16. Later in the quarter, the Blugolds jumped out to a seven-point lead before Poole headed to the charity stripe for a pair of free throws. Vaile added a pair of back-to-back layups as the Titans came within one with 3:42 remaining in the half. Vaile gave the Titans the lead on a pair of free throws as Osterman made a layup to end the half.

With a three-point advantage, the Titans held the Blugolds scoreless for four minutes in the third quarter. Jorgensen and Bridget Froehlke hit back-to-back 3-pointers as the Titans took a nine-point lead early. An 8-4 run by the Blugolds trimmed the Titans lead to five at 38-33 before taking back the lead with five points in 30 seconds. Jaden Kolinski ended a three-minute scoring drought for the Titans, bringing the Titans with one at 40-41.

The Blugolds entered the final quarter of play on a 7-2 run before Ava Douglas went to the line for a pair of free throws. Jorgensen find the basket with under three minutes to play as the Titans trailed 52-46. The Blugolds made four trips to the free throw line in the final minute of play as Kate Huml hit the final 3-pointer of the game as the Titans fell 62-53.

Next Time on the Court

The Titans will continue WIAC action on January 7, traveling to (RV) UW-River Falls (11-3, 1-2 WIAC). The Titans and Falcons are set for a 3 p.m. tip at the Don Page Arena.

In tonight's' contest, the Titans joined a tie for most 3-pointers attempted (tied for 14th in a five-way tie).

In individual season records, Vaile is currently 15th on the season record for field goal percentage (min. 20 made field goals) at 51.7% (61 for 118). Vaile is also in a tie for 13th on scoring average (min. 5 games) at 12.3 points per game. Osterman is 8th on the all-time list for individual season free throw percentage (min. 10 made). Osterman has made 12-of-14 free throws this season for 85.7%.
