Division I Phoenix Defeat Titans In Exhibition Game

UW-Oshkosh's Leah Porath led all players with 19 points as the Titans suffered a 76-36 setback to UW-Green Bay during an exhibition women's basketball contest held Wednesday (Oct. 30) in Green Bay. The Titans' 36 points marked the program's best scoring output in an exhibition game at UW-Green Bay.

Porath shot 8 of 13 from the field, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range. She tallied two points in the first quarter before erupting for 12 during the second period and adding five more in the fourth.

UW-Oshkosh held UW-Green Bay, a perennial power in the NCAA Division I Horizon League, to 35.1 percent (13-37) shooting from the field in the first half, including 27.8 percent (5-18) during the second quarter.

UW-Green Bay concluded the game shooting 41.7 percent (25-60) from the floor while holding UW-Oshkosh to 35.1 percent (13-37). The Phoenix also held advantages of 46-22 in rebounds, 22-4 in offensive boards, 16-5 in assists and 14-6 in steals.

Karly Murphy paced three UW-Green Bay players in double figures with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor. Frankie Wurtz and Lyndsey Robson chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Phoenix.

UW-Green Bay's Madison Wolf contributed seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench. Phoenix reserve Patricia Gallasova had a game-best five assists.

UW-Oshkosh featured nine different scorers, including Abby Kaiser, Katie Ludwig and Emily Miller each with three points. Emily Higgins, Jenna Jorgensen and Claire Staples all had two points for the Titans while Olivia Campbell and Karsyn Rueth added one apiece. Porath and Campbell shared the team lead with four rebounds. Campbell and Staples both dished out a pair of assists.

UW-Green Bay scored the first nine points of the game before Porath scored on a spinning layup that trimmed the Titans' deficit to 9-2 at the 2:42 mark of the first quarter. The Phoenix, who built a 19-5 lead after one period, built a 31-10 advantage midway through the second period before the Titans pulled within 32-16 with 3:32 left in the opening half. UW-Oshkosh received three points apiece from Ludwig and Porath during its 6-1 run during a span of nearly three minutes.

The Phoenix owned a 38-21 advantage at intermission and led by at least 20 points the rest of the way after Wurtz drilled a 3-pointer for a 41-21 lead with 9:31 to go in the third quarter.

UW-Oshkosh previously lost exhibition games at UW-Green Bay by scores of 61-34 in 2014 and 79-35 in 2016.

The Titans begin the regular season with their home opener against Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on Nov. 11.
