WBCA Selects Fischer As Division III Coach Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh head coach Brad Fischer has been named the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The award is the third for Fischer, who also received Wisconsin's top Division III coaching citation following the 2013 and 2017 seasons.

The WBCA also selected the entire UW-Oshkosh staff as its Division III Coaching Staff of the Year.

Fischer and assistant coaches Kelly McNiff, Niki Sutter and Madeline Staples guided UW-Oshkosh to a 26-4 record this past year. The Titans went on to capture WIAC Tournament and Division III Oshkosh Regional titles after winning their conference-record 13th regular season championship.

UW-Oshkosh led the WIAC in scoring defense (49.1), average scoring (+17.4) and rebounding (+6.4) margins, field goal percentage (.431), turnovers per game (12.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.16). The Titans' scoring defense and turnovers per game ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, in the country.

UW-Oshkosh, which produced a 13-1 record at home this year, won its last six games of the regular season before winning the Oshkosh Regional with victories of 72-46 over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) and 54-52 over DePauw University (Ind.). The Titans had their season end with a 70-57 loss to Wartburg College (Iowa) in the third round of the 64-team national tournament.

Fischer, who owns a 165-37 record during his seven years as UW-Oshkosh's head coach, has guided the Titans to the Division III postseason five times. UW-Oshkosh also advanced to the third round of the national tournament in 2014 and 2017, and to the second round in both 2015 and 2016.

Fischer has led UW-Oshkosh to at least 20 victories in each of his seven seasons, marking the second time in conference history that a program has won 20 or more games in at least seven consecutive years. His 165 wins ranks 11th on the WIAC's all-time coaching list while his .817 winning percentage is third best among conference coaches with at least 70 wins.

Fischer's UW-Oshkosh teams have won WIAC regular season titles in 2017 and 2019 and league tournament championships in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. The Titans concluded the 2019 season ranked 13th in the country by D3hoops.com.
