Titans Never Trail In Rout Of Saints

Melanie Schneider led the Titans with 16 points as the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team claimed a 71-44 victory over The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Friday (Nov. 16) in Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh (2-0) never trailed against the Saints and maintained a double-digit lead for all but the first 2:36 of the contest. The Titans have opened their season 2-0 for nine consecutive seasons. 

UW-Oshkosh held their largest lead of 34 points (66-32) with 6:13 left in the final quarter.

Schneider recorded six rebounds, three assists and one steal while UW-Oshkosh's Erin Vande Zande posted a career-best 10-point performance off the bench with three rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh had 12 players score points, including reserve Karsyn Rueth who scored nine points with four rebounds and a pair of assists.

UW-Oshkosh's Emily Miller scored four points to go along with a team-leading and career-best seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Jessie Rabas, Brooke Freitag and Olivia Campbell each had six points for the Titans. Campbell chipped in four rebounds and three steals while Freitag had five rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh owned advantages over The College of St. Scholastica in rebounds (50-26), assists (14-8), turnovers (18-13) and steals (11-4). The UW-Oshkosh bench accounted for 39 points, 26 rebounds and 10 assists as no starter played more than 24 minutes.

The Titans shot 39.1 percent (25-64) from the field, including 27.6 percent (8-29) from beyond the 3-point arc, and 92.9 percent (13-14) at the free throw line.

The Saints (0-1) shot 33.3 percent (16-48) from the floor while going 25 percent (4-16) from 3-point range and 61.5 percent (8-13) at the foul line.

UW-Oshkosh held The College of St. Scholastica without a double-digit scoring performance as the Saint's leading scorers were Mariah Pearson and Amber Smith with nine points apiece. 

The College of St. Scholastica's Maddy Halley had a team-leading five rebounds while Danielle Cieluch led the squad with three steals and three assists. 

UW-Oshkosh got out to 4-0 lead following layups from Campbell and Schneider during the opening 89 seconds of play. The College of St. Scholastica brought the score within three (8-5) after a 3-pointer from Emma Schmidt, but the Titans responded with a 10-point, three-minute run to close the quarter with a 19-7 advantage.

In the second quarter, UW-Oshkosh held The College of St. Scholastica at 11 points while going on a 12-point run over the span of 4:02 run to advance the score to 33-11 with 3:58 left before halftime. The Titans managed their best quarter from field goal range as UW-Oshkosh went 8-for-16 (50 percent) from the field. The Titans held the Saints to just nine points in the second quarter.

The Titans posted 18 points in the third quarter to the Saints' 13, extending their lead to 56-29. Schneider recorded six points in the third on 3-for-4 shooting from the field.

UW-Oshkosh held their largest lead of 34 points (66-32) after a basket from Kendal Schramek with 6:13 left in the final quarter. The Saints responded with a 12-5 run to conclude the game.

The last time UW-Oshkosh played St. Scholastica was the 2010-11 season, and the Titans defeated the Saints, 68-44.

The Titans remain in Eau Claire to play Ripon College on Saturday (Nov. 17).
