Women’s Basketball Team Collects WBCA Academic Award

UW-Oshkosh achieved excellence in the classroom this past season and the result was a 24th-place finish in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 2018 Academic Team Honor Roll rankings.

UW-Oshkosh's 15 women's basketball student-athletes combined for a 3.567 cumulative grade point average (GPA) during the 2017-18 academic year. It was the fifth Top 25 mention for the Titans, who also placed seventh in the rankings in 2001, third in 2002, fifth in 2003 and 23rd in 2014.

Junior guard Chloe Pustina led UW-Oshkosh this past year with a 3.967 GPA while senior guard Jaimee Pitt followed at 3.925. Head coach Brad Fischer's squad also received GPAs of 3.871 from senior forward Eliza Campbell, 3.857 from sophomore guard Olivia Campbell, 3.800 from senior guard Emma Melotik and 3.752 from junior forward Melanie Schneider.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division III GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2017-18 season is the 23rd in which the WBCA has compiled the honor roll.

"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 25 teams honored strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"

Emerson College (Mass.) compiled a 3.712 GPA to earn the top position in the WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll rankings for the second straight year. The Lions were followed by UW-Eau Claire at 3.704, Yeshiva University (N.Y.) at 3.692, Bethel University (Minn.) at 3.689 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 3.680. UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire were the only WIAC schools listed in the Top 25.

On the court, UW-Oshkosh concluded the 2017-18 season with a 21-6 record, marking the program's sixth straight year with at least 20 wins. The Titans shared second place in the WIAC standings before reaching their fifth consecutive league tournament championship game.
