Emma Melotik, WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlight

Each week during the 2017-18 academic year, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a "Student-Athlete Spotlight" Q & A segment. The segments, presented by Culver's, will be also posted every Thursday on the WIAC website.

Name: Emma Melotik
Institution: UW-Oshkosh
Hometown (High School): Genesee Depot, Wis. (Kettle Moraine High School)
Year In School: Senior
Sport: Women's Basketball
Major(s): Psychology
Minor(s): Spanish

Why did you choose to attend UW-Oshkosh?
The basketball program here was the main reason I chose UW-Oshkosh. Out of all the schools I was looking to play for, the one here was without a doubt the best fit for me. I knew the team would continue to see success, the coaches were great, and the girls on the team seemed like people I could easily fit in with. Overall, it was just very easy to picture myself playing here. On top of that, Oshkosh is only an hour and a half away from my hometown, and I knew I would be receiving a good education.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference?
The thing I like the most about competing in the WIAC is how competitive it is. I think our team reached a new level of understanding that this year. We went 10-0 for our non-conference games without many issues, and then the second conference started we realized that every single game was going to be a fight. It makes winning games feel a lot better when we know we had to really work for it.
