Campbell Scores 1,000th Career Point During Titans' Win Over Blue Devils

Isabella Samuels matched her career high with 16 points, Eliza Campbell surpassed a career scoring milestone and the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team defeated UW-Stout, 67-47, on Wednesday (Jan. 10) in Menomonie.

UW-Oshkosh (11-2, 1-2 WIAC) jumped out to a 16-4 advantage in the first quarter and led for the final 37:14 of the game on the way to earning its third straight win over UW-Stout and the 10th victory in the past 11 meetings.

UW-Stout (7-7, 0-3 WIAC), cut its deficit to 18-15 early in the second period, but the Blue Devils shot 2-for-10 from the field and committed five turnovers during the final 7:54 of the quarter as UW-Oshkosh, which trailed for just 78 seconds – all in the first quarter – owned a 28-19 advantage at intermission and led by at least eight points for the remainder of the contest.

Samuels made seven of her 10 field goal attempts and both free throws while tying for the team lead with five rebounds. She equaled her career high of 16 points established during the season opener against Otterbein University (Ohio) on Nov. 17.

Campbell added 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field. She became the 21st player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points when she converted a three-point play with 61 seconds remaining to increase her four-year total to 1,002 points in 101 games played.

Chloe Pustina and Melanie Schneider chipped in 10 points apiece for the Titans, who had four double-digit scorers for the third time this season. Schneider, who scored all of her points during the first half, tied for the team lead with five rebounds and two steals.

UW-Oshkosh's Emma Melotik had eight points and five rebounds while Olivia Campbell had four points, five rebounds and a team-best three assists.

The Titans, ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, ended the game with advantages in field goal (.393 to .370) and free throw (.947 to .800) percentages, rebounds (39-24), assists (8-5), turnovers (23-20) and blocks (3-1). UW-Oshkosh converted 18 of 19 free throws, marking the eighth-best percentage in program history for games with at least 13 made free throws.

UW-Oshkosh entered the contest leading the country in turnovers per game (9.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.90) while ranking fourth nationally in average scoring margin (+32.0) and fifth in both field goal percentage (.469) and scoring defense (45.1).

UW-Stout, which was held to its season low in rebounds and assists, held a 14-9 edge in steals. The Blue Devils went into the game pacing the WIAC with 20.54 turnovers forced and 11.5 steals per game.

Eliza Campbell and Samuels combined to score the Titans' first 11 points as UW-Oshkosh built its 16-4 advantage midway through the opening quarter. The Titans shot 6-for-8 from the floor during the first five minutes of the game while UW-Stout made 1 of 5 field goal attempts and committed four turnovers before Bailey Diersen drove for a layup to cut the Blue Devils' deficit to 16-6 at the 3:12 mark of the first period.

The Titans held an 18-11 lead after one quarter and went on to outscore the Blue Devils in each of the final three periods. Schneider accounted for six of the Titans' 10 second-quarter points as UW-Oshkosh built a 28-19 advantage at intermission.

Trailing 43-29 entering the final quarter, UW-Stout pulled within 47-39 on a layup from Brianna Banks with 7:49 to play, but Olivia Campbell made a pair of free throws nine seconds later, and the Titans led by double digits the rest of the game.

UW-Oshkosh had its largest lead of 20 points on two occasions during the fourth quarter. Eliza Campbell's three-point play with 1:01 left gave the Titans a 65-45 advantage, and a pair of free throws by Leah Porath with four seconds to go provided the game's final score.

Diersen led UW-Stout with 10 points, four rebounds and five steals. She went into the game ranked second in the WIAC with 15.1 points per game and 34 steals.

Carsyn Osterman added eight points, four rebounds and a team-leading two assists off the Blue Devil bench.

UW-Oshkosh plays at UW-River Falls on Saturday (Jan. 13).
