Titans Tame Lions To Remain Unbeaten

All 14 Titans in uniform scored at least two points as the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team coasted to a 93-46 victory over Finlandia University on Saturday (Dec. 2) in Hancock, Mich.

UW-Oshkosh (7-0), ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, outscored the Lions, 48-20, during the second half.

Olivia Campbell, Karsyn Rueth and Madeline Staples all had a team-leading 10 points for the Titans, who also received nine points each from Eliza Campbell, Jaimee Pitt and Isabella Samuels. Olivia Campbell became the eighth Titan to lead the team in scoring this season.

Samuels paced UW-Oshkosh with eight rebounds while Staples, Emma Melotik and Chloe Pustina shared the team lead with three assists.

UW-Oshkosh's nine reserves combined to amass 56 points, 21 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals and two blocks as each Titan played at least six minutes.

The Titans, who surpassed 90 points for the third time this season, concluded the contest with considerable advantages in field goal percentage (.507 to .396), rebounds (43-25), assists (20-11), steals (15-8) and turnovers (24-13). UW-Oshkosh collected 20 offensive rebounds and made nine 3-pointers.

UW-Oshkosh went into the game leading the country with 7.5 turnovers per contest and a 2.58 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Titans also listed second nationally in average scoring margin (+39.7), third in field goal percentage (.495), seventh in scoring defense (43.5) and 10th in scoring offense (83.2).

The Titans scored the first six points of the game on the way to building leads of 17-2 during the first quarter, 45-26 at intermission and 73-42 entering the final period.

Finlandia University (0-7) missed all four of its field goal attempts and committed five turnovers during the opening seven minutes of the game as UW-Oshkosh scored 17 of the first 19 points, including four apiece from Olivia Campbell and Rueth.

The Lions pulled within 25-20 on a jumper by Taylor Pertile with 6:48 left in the second quarter, but Finlandia University shot 2-for-7 from the floor and committed seven turnovers during the remainder of the first half.

The Titans led by double-figures for the last 24 minutes after Staples knocked down a jumper for a 33-22 UW-Oshkosh advantage with 4:07 to play in the second quarter.

UW-Oshkosh recorded 10 offensive rebounds and nine steals over the first two quarters.

Olivia Campbell scored six straight points to increase UW-Oshkosh's advantage to 57-32 at the 6:17 mark of the third quarter. The Titans then scored nine consecutive points, including four from Staples, to extend their lead to 71-37 with just under two minutes to play in the third period.

UW-Oshkosh held its largest lead of 47 points when Taylor Dagon provided the final score on a layup with 20 seconds remaining.

The Titans created seven turnovers, including five on steals, and limited the Lions to just 18.2 percent (2-11) shooting from the floor during the fourth quarter.

Pertile and Lela Horne led Finlandia University with nine points apiece. Horne had a game-high four steals while the Lions' Julia Daavettila led all players with eight rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh is off until traveling to North Carolina for games against Meredith College on Dec. 16 and Methodist College on Dec. 17.
