Titans To Play In The NCAA Postseason For Fourth Straight Year

UW-Oshkosh was selected to host a four-team regional after receiving an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship on Monday (Feb. 27).

UW-Oshkosh (24-3), which earned one of 21 at-large berths to the 64-team national field, hosts Calvin College (Mich.) during the first round at 7 p.m. on Friday (March 3) in Kolf Sports Center.

Friday's other first-round matchup in Oshkosh will feature DePauw University (Ind.) opposing Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) at 4:30 p.m.

The winners of Friday's games will remain in Oshkosh for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday (March 4). Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites for games on March 10-11. Victors of the four sectionals will then advance to the semifinals and finals on March 17-18 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

UW-Oshkosh is currently ranked 10th in the country by D3hoops.com, while DePauw University (26-2) lists 12th and Gustavus Adolphus College (25-2) 13th.

The Titans are hosting a regional for the second straight year and the third time in the past four seasons. UW-Oshkosh won its own regional in 2014 and reached the second round as host last season.

UW-Oshkosh was selected to this year's NCAA postseason after winning the WIAC regular season title for the first time since 2006. The Titans, who finished first in the league standings by three games over runner-up UW-Whitewater, also clinched their first outright conference championship since 1999.

In this year's WIAC Championship final, the Titans had their 10-game winning streak snapped and suffered their first home loss of the season after a 65-56 setback to UW-Whitewater on Sunday (Feb. 26).

UW-Oshkosh owns a 25-12 record in 13 previous NCAA tournament appearances. The Titans, one of eight women's programs to win at least one game during each of the last three NCAA Championships, won the 1996 national title after finishing as the runners-up in 1995.

Calvin College (22-5), the host of this year's NCAA Division III Championship, is back in the national postseason for the 17th time and first since 2015. The Knights have compiled a 21-16 record in NCAA tournament play.

The Knights earned an at-large berth to this year's national championship by placing third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) before suffering a 49-42 loss at Trine University (Ind.) in the MIAA Tournament championship game on Saturday (Feb. 25).

Calvin College has won two of its three meetings with UW-Oshkosh, including a 91-71 victory over the Titans during the second round of the 2015 NCAA Championship in Grand Rapids.

UW-Oshkosh won, 61-59, at Calvin College on March 12, 1999, while the Knights beat the Titans, 67-64, in Normal, Ill., on March 6, 1975.

Two-time national champion DePauw University clinched its 14th consecutive and 17th overall NCAA appearance by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, 56-50, over Denison University (Ohio).

The Tigers, who won NCAA titles in 2007 and 2013, own a 31-15 record in the national tournament.

DePauw University handed UW-Oshkosh its first loss of the 2016-17 season by a 60-56 score on Dec. 20 in Puerto Rico.

Gustavus Adolphus College is in the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2008 and sixth overall. The Gusties have a 1-5 record in the national tournament.

Gustavus Adolphus College earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship by finishing as the runners-up to University of St. Thomas (Minn.) in both the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season standings and postseason tournament.

The Gusties, who enter the national tournament with their best record in program history, have never faced any of the three other teams in Oshkosh this weekend.

UW-Oshkosh previously appeared in the NCAA Division III Championship in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
