Schmidt Collects All-America Honorable Mention Status

UW-Oshkosh sophomore guard Taylor Schmidt has received honorable mention recognition on the 2015 Women's Basketball Coaches Association's NCAA Division III All-America Basketball Team.

Schmidt is the first UW-Oshkosh player to be selected to the organization's All-America team since Whitney Tyriver was an honorable mention choice in 2008.

A total of 40 players were named to this year's All-America squad, including 10 to the first team. The selections were led by Player of the Year finalists Jenna Dockter of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), Sydney Moss of Thomas More College (Ky.) and Melissa Tobie of Montclair State University (N.J.).

Schmidt and UW-Superior's Sally Linzmeier were the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) players named to the All-America Team. Linzmeier, the WIAC's Player of the Year, was voted to the first team.

Schmidt started all 30 games and led the Titans with 11 points per game, 93 assists and an .804 (119-148) free throw percentage. Schmidt's 329 points ranked fourth in the WIAC while her scoring average listed 10th. She also ranked fifth in the league in assists, seventh with 53 steals and eighth in free throw percentage.

Schmidt, who earlier this month received All-Central Region Second Team honors by D3hoops.com, led UW-Oshkosh to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The 2015 All-WIAC First Team selection also helped UW-Oshkosh (23-7) capture the WIAC Tournament title for the second straight season and reach 20 wins for the third consecutive year.

In her two-year career, Schmidt has started all 60 of UW-Oshkosh's games and averaged 10.6 points, 3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
