Schmidt, Kuehl Named All-Region By D3hoops.com

UW-Oshkosh sophomore guard Taylor Schmidt and senior forward Katelyn Kuehl have been named to the D3hoops.com NCAA Division III All-Central Region Women's Basketball Team.

Schmidt earned Second Team accolades while Kuehl secured Third Team honors after leading the Titans to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The All-WIAC First Team duo also helped UW-Oshkosh (23-7) capture the WIAC Tournament title for the second straight season and reach 20 wins for the third consecutive year.

Schmidt started all 30 games and led the Titans with 11 points per game, 93 assists and an .804 (119-148) free throw percentage. Schmidt's 329 points ranked fourth in the WIAC while her scoring average listed 10th. She also ranked fifth in the league in assists, seventh with 53 steals and eighth in free throw percentage.

In her two-year career, Schmidt has started all 60 of UW-Oshkosh's games and averaged 10.6 points, 3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

Kuehl started 28 of her 29 games played this season and averaged 8.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and a team-leading 1.9 steals per contest. Kuehl, who repeated on the All-WIAC First Team this season, ranked fifth in the league with 56 steals and seventh with 61 offensive rebounds. She also ranked second on the squad by shooting 49.7 percent from the floor and 78.6 percent from the free throw line.

Kuehl capped her 114-game collegiate career with 1,046 points. She registered 265 points in her freshman season at Wisconsin Lutheran College before transferring to UW-Oshkosh for the last three years. Kuehl tallied 217 points as a sophomore, 306 last season and 258 as a senior. She also concluded her career with 714 rebounds and 173 steals.

Schmidt and Kuehl helped UW-Oshkosh lead the WIAC in scoring margin (+11.7), field goal percentage (.429) and turnover margin (+3.63). The Titans ranked 19th in the NCAA Division III by averaging just 13.7 turnovers per contest.

Five players were chosen to each of the three all-region teams. The Central Region is comprised of 54 programs from seven conferences and two independent schools.

Earning First Team honors were senior forward Melissa Gilkey from Washington University (Mo.), senior guard Sally Linzmeier from UW-Superior, sophomore guard Katie McDaniels from Wheaton College (Ill.), and senior centers Fiona McMahon from Elmhurst College (Ill.) and Kristen Schulz from Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Joining Schmidt on the Second Team were junior center Hannah Considine from Wheaton College, senior forward Claire Devaney from the University of Chicago (Ill.), senior guard Tess Godhardt from North Central College (Ill.) and senior forward Hannah McGinnis from Illinois College.

Joining Kuehl on the Third Team were sophomore guard Lauren Anklam from UW-Stevens Point, senior center Taylor Dicus from Cornell College (Iowa), junior forward Alexis Hahn from Carthage College and junior guard Teenie Lichtfuss from UW-Eau Claire.

Linzmeier and Schulz shared Central Region Player of the Year honors. Nancy Fahey of Washington University was named Central Region Coach of the Year.
