Titans Reel In Muskies With Eight-Run Inning

The UW-Oshkosh softball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch a 12-7 comeback victory over Lakeland College on Sunday (Feb. 28) in Marquette, Mich.

Lauren Torborg led the Titans, going 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Erika BerryElizabeth Fonk and Abby Menting each added two of UW-Oshkosh's 14 hits, while Hayden Krueger hit a three-run home run and registered four RBIs.

Lakeland College took a 7-4 lead with a five-run fifth inning. The Muskies' Angela Tribuzio provided the big hit in the inning with a two-out grand slam off of UW-Oshkosh starting pitcher Clare Robbe.

Caitlin Hoerning sparked the UW-Oshkosh comeback with a leadoff triple in the sixth inning. After Kaitlyn Krol walked, Torborg drove home Hoerning with a single to cut the Titan deficit to 7-5.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Lakeland College third baseman Rosa Gonzalez committed a two-run error that allowed Torborg and Krol to score the tying runs, and two batters later Berry hit the eventual game-winning two-run single to left field.

Krueger followed Berry's safety with a three-run home run to cap the scoring with no outs in the sixth inning.

UW-Oshkosh (3-1) loaded the bases again with one out in the sixth inning. but two groundouts ended the threat.

Sara Brunlieb, who relieved Robbe in the fifth inning, allowed two hits in the seventh frame before inducing a groundout and a popup to end the game.

Brunlieb (2-1) earned the win after allowing just two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.

UW-Oshkosh's Haley Bayreuther doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Krueger.

Lakeland College (1-2) scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead, but Fonk knotted the score at 2 with a first home run to lead off the third frame before the Titans reclaimed a 4-2 lead with a two-run fourth inning.

Robbe exited after allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched. She recorded six strikeouts against one walk.

Muskies starting pitcher Taylor Bush was charged with the loss after yielding eight runs on 10 hits and two walks in six-plus innings. She exited in favor of Rikki Vela with no outs and the bases loaded.

Tribuzio ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Muskies.

UW-Oshkosh is idle until embarking on its trip to Florida, where the Titans will play 10 games in seven days. UW-Oshkosh begins the trip on March 19 against Illinois opponents Elmhurst College and University of Chicago.
