Brunlieb No-Hits Thomas College

Sara Brunlieb pitched the 11th no-hitter in program history and Katie Koepsel extended her hitting streak to 15 games as the UW-Oshkosh softball team capped its spring trip with two wins in Clermont, Fla.

The Titans (10-6) defeated the University of Chicago (Ill.), 3-1, in the first game of the day before Brunlieb struck out three and walked one in a 12-0, five-inning masterpiece against Thomas College (Maine).

Koepsel went a combined 5-for-6 at the plate with a home run and five runs batted in on the day. Her current 15-game hitting streak ranks second in school history, trailing only Sydnee Wyss's 18-game streak in 2011.

Brunlieb walked the second Thomas College batter of the game before retiring the last 14.

UW-Oshkosh's offense backed up Brunlieb's no-hitter with 14 hits, including five for extra bases.

Koepsel launched her fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the bottom of the first inning, and drove in another on a single in the Titans' four-run second inning, which also featured runs batted in by Haley Bayreuther, Emily Mallek and Willa Papalia-Beatty.

The Titans added five runs on six hits, including run-scoring doubles by Erika Berry and Hayden Krueger, in the third inning to complete the scoring.

Brunlieb (6-2) secured her first no-hitter on a lineout to third base to end the game in the fifth inning.

Berry, Koepsel and Papalia-Beatty all had two hits for UW-Oshkosh. Sixteen Titans appeared in the game and 11 recorded hits.

Faith Robinson took the loss for Thomas College (0-10), allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks in two innings pitched.

In the first game of the day, UW-Oshkosh starting pitcher Clare Robbe earned her second win in six days over the University of Chicago.

Robbe pitched a complete game in UW-Oshkosh's 4-3 win over the Maroons to begin the Titans' trip to Clermont on March 22.

This time around, the University of Chicago scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out single by cleanup hitter Kathleen Kohm, but Robbe held the Maroons scoreless on two hits the rest of the game.

After being held to two hits through four innings, UW-Oshkosh tallied two runs in the fifth after loading the bases with no outs. Brianna Witter led off the frame with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch to knot the score at 1. Bayreuther followed by plating the eventual game winner with a bunt single, but Maroon starting pitcher Molly Moran retired the next three Titans to escape further damage.

Koepsel singled to score Bayreuther with an insurance run for the Titans off of Maroon relief pitcher Tabbetha Bohac in the seventh inning.

The University of Chicago had its leadoff batter aboard in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but Robbe snuffed out all three potential rallies by setting down the next three batters.

Robbe (4-4) allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four.

Koepsel went 3-for-4 to lead the UW-Oshkosh offense. Bayreuther added two hits, one run batted in and two stolen bases while Witter had two doubles and one run.

Moran was charged with loss for the University of Chicago (5-4) after allowing two runs on four hits in five innings pitched. She struck out three and walked one.

Kohm had two hits, one run batted in, and one walk in three plate appearances to lead the Maroons.

UW-Oshkosh plays a doubleheader against St. Norbert College on Wednesday (April 1) in De Pere.
