Blugolds Blank Titans In WIAC Tournament Opener

Amanda Fischer drove in all four runs during UW-Eau Claire's 4-0 softball victory over UW-Oshkosh in the first round of the WIAC Tournament on Friday (May 2) in Menomonie.

The Titans (23-10) will try to remain alive in the double-elimination event when they face UW-Stout tomorrow.

It was still 0-0 when the Blugolds (25-14) came to bat in the fifth inning. Kenzie Winning led off with a single and stole second base. Fischer drove her home with a groundout for the 1-0 lead.

During the seventh, a single and error put two runners on for Fischer. She smacked a three-run homer to center that put the game away.

UW-Oshkosh totaled three hits – singles by Haley Bayreuther in the third and Hayden Krueger in the sixth, along with a double from Kassie Krueger during the seventh.

Laura Raflik struck out seven without walking a batter in the complete-game win. Jill Vondrak also fired seven innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits.

UW-Eau Claire received two hits from both Winning and Casey Arnold.
