Titans Unleash 30 Runs Against Yellowjackets

Hayden Krueger went 6-for-6 with seven runs and six RBI during UW-Oshkosh's sweep of the UW-Superior softball team on Sunday (April 27) at YP.com Park.

Krueger posted a single, double, triple and homer during her first four at-bats. The Titans captured the opener, 17-3 in six innings, before taking the second contest, 13-3 in five.

UW-Oshkosh (23-9/11-3 WIAC) broke a school record with nine doubles in the first game. Katie Koepsel also set a program record with her 20th double of the season.

During the opener, Koepsel doubled home Krueger to give the Titans a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Five Titans scored in the second frame, with Haley Bayreuther blasting a solo home run to right field. Tess Fadness and Kassie Krueger followed with RBI doubles to go ahead, 7-1.

UW-Superior (20-17/3-13 WIAC) pulled within 7-3 after Nicolle Gross connected for a two-run shot in the second.

Fourteen batters came to the plate as UW-Oshkosh counted 10 runs in the sixth. Koepsel drove in three runs with a pair of doubles. Kassie Krueger added a run-scoring two-bagger, while Hayden Krueger and Emily Mallek each forced home one with walks.

Jill Vondrak threw all six frames, allowing eight hits, for the victory. Sarah Hendrickson took the loss with six earned runs over 5.1 innings.

The Titans continued to roll in game two, with Bayreuther doubling and Hayden Krueger hitting a two-run rocket in the first inning.

UW-Superior tied the game, 2-2, in the second when Elle Niemela scored on a wild pitch and Anna Morgan tallied an RBI single.

Hayden Krueger continued her stellar day with a run-scoring double in the third. Moments later, Fadness smacked a single that scored Krueger for a 4-2 lead.

Using seven hits and two walks, the Titans scored nine runs during the fifth frame. Taylor Loew pounded an RBI single to go ahead, 6-2. Hayden Krueger then smoked a two-run double down the third-base line. After a run-scoring single from Koepsel, Fadness blasted a three-run homer for the exclamation point.

Fadness finished the day with six hits and six RBI, while Koepsel totaled six RBI, five hits and five runs.

All nine Yellowjackets recorded a base hit in game two, with Haley McNeil marking an RBI double during the fifth inning.

Both pitchers went the distance in the nightcap. Sara Brunlieb earned the win with three runs allowed on 10 hits. Gross surrendered 13 runs on 14 hits and four walks.

UW-Oshkosh has a home doubleheader against UW-Stout scheduled for Monday (April 28).
