Titans Tally Victories Over Blue, Bears

Lindsey Luedke posted five hits and scored four runs in UW-Oshkosh's softball wins against Wellesley College (Mass.) and State University of N.Y.-Potsdam on Tuesday (March 25) in Clermont, Fla.

Jill Vondrak came within one run of a perfect game during the 9-2 win over Potsdam. The Titans (7-3) used a fourth-inning rally to defeat Wellesley, 4-2, in their first contest of the day.

Vondrak retired 17 straight batters before allowing a walk in the sixth inning. But during the bottom of the fifth, UW-Oshkosh had the game-ending run on third base and was unable to grab the eight-run margin. Vondrak finished with one earned run and eight strikeouts in the two-hitter.

In the first frame, Katie Koepsel pounded a two-run double into right-center to give the Titans a 3-0 lead. Kassie Krueger then made it 5-0 with a RBI single in the second.

Koepsel counted another two-run double in the sixth, after Tess Fadness and Emily Mallek drove home runs with sacrifice flies. UW-Oshkosh's scoring also included a RBI single from Taylor Loew.

The Bears got on the board in the sixth inning with Jordan Ott's double and a fielding error.

Megan Johnson took the defeat, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits over six innings.

UW-Oshkosh had an interesting finish for its triumph over Wellesley. Trailing by two, the Blue opened the seventh inning with a pair of singles. Maggie Balke then tracked down a high fly ball in right field. Both runners tagged up, but the runner on first base was called out for leaving early. Vondrak then forced a groundout to earn the save.

Wellesley tied the game, 1-1, on a Mariah Philips single during the second inning. Maria LeBouyer added an RBI single in the third to go ahead, 2-1.

The Titans' fourth-inning rally started with singles by Luedke and Mallek. Hayden Krueger came through with a game-tying double. Balke and Lexi Wagner then plated runs with groundballs to take the 4-2 advantage.

Sara Brunlieb captured the victory, yielding two runs with one walk in 6.2 innings. The loss went to Lindsay Johnson after she allowed four runs in seven frames.

UW-Oshkosh returns to action against Buffalo State College (N.Y.) and nationally ranked St. Thomas (Minn.) on Thursday (March 27).
