Titans Quiet The Storm, Falcons

Kaelyn Hogan (So. • Greendale) won a game with her suicide squeeze and knocked in four runs as the UW-Oshkosh women's softball team defeated both Simpson College (Iowa) and Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday (Feb. 27) in Marquette, Mich.

During the morning opener, the Titans (3-1) overcame a 5-0 deficit by tying the contest in their last-gasp seventh inning. Hogan dropped down a great bunt in the eighth frame to defeat the Storm by a 7-6 tally. Game two saw UW-Oshkosh gain a 7-2 victory, as Courtney Wautier (So. • Brussels) struck out 10 Falcon batters.

Simpson College (2-2) tallied in each of the first two innings, including a home run by Hilary Harmon. The lead then increased to five when Tieryn Potratz went deep and Keri Sorensen laced an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

UW-Oshkosh's rally began with a double by Amanda Schroeder (So. • Kaukauna), who scored on a Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe) single. The Titans added runs on Hogan's single, an error and a wild pitch to force the eighth frame.

After the Storm went ahead on a groundout, Wyss tied the score at 6 with a run-scoring triple. Hogan's squeeze bunt gave the win to Tatum Schultz (So. • Oshkosh), who didn't allow an earned run while getting five outs. Wautier tossed the first four innings and yielded two earned runs.

Kacee Arey started for Simpson College and surrendered three runs while striking out five in six frames. Jessica Toyne recorded four outs and let four Titans cross the plate to take the loss. Sorensen and Amanda Enochs each marked a pair of hits as the Storm totaled nine.

The Titans didn't need a comeback in game two, jumping to a 6-0 advantage after three innings. Hogan belted a solo homer during a five-run third frame that also featured Marti Meyer's (Jr. • Verona) three-run triple. UW-Oshkosh's final run came on a Hogan single in the sixth inning.

Concordia (1-2) only got on the board in the sixth inning when Abbie Goetsch and Sheri Weidner each nailed a solo homer. Wautier limited the Falcons to just two other base hits to earn the complete-game victory.

Danielle Burke allowed five earned runs over 2.1 innings for the loss, while Ashley Draeger fired the last 3.2 innings (1 ER).
