Titans Finish Seventh, Chadwick 11th At Midwest Regional

UW-Oshkosh finished seventh among 36 men's cross country teams at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional it hosted Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Lake Breeze Golf in Winneconne.

UW-Oshkosh, which was hosting the regional for the 11th time, recorded its seventh-place finish with 197 points. The Titans placed eighth at last year's Midwest Regional with 231 points.

Junior Cody Chadwick led UW-Oshkosh by completing the 8,000-meter course with an 11th-place time of 25:02. Chadwick was a 26th-place finisher at the 2018 Midwest Regional.

Chadwick was followed in the top 50 individual listings by UW-Oshkosh teammates Andrew George, Steven Potter and Andrew Rathkamp. George finished 33rd among the meet's 252 runners with a time of 25:32 while Potter placed 41st in 25:51 and Rathkamp 44th in 25:55. Potter finished 67th and George 85th at last year's Midwest Regional.

Other UW-Oshkosh competitors in Saturday's meet were Mitchell Bradford, Andrew Muskevitsch and Joe Kehoe. Bradford finished 76th with a time of 26:29, Muskevitsch 87th in 26:47 and Kehoe 89th in 26:48.

Ryan Cutter of the University of Chicago (Ill.) was the winner of Saturday's race with his time of 24:33. Cutter was a 15th-place finisher at last year's Midwest Regional.

Finishing behind Cutter were second-place David Fassbender of UW-Whitewater in 24:37, third-place Tyler Nault of UW-La Crosse in 24:41, fourth-place Nick Matteucci of Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) in 24:49 and fifth-place Zach Klokow of UW-Platteville in 24:50.

Three-time defending national champion North Central College (Ill.) won its fourth straight and 31st overall Midwest Regional title with 47 points. The Cardinals were followed in the top five mentions by second-place UW-La Crosse with 89 points, third-place Washington University in St. Louis with 98, fourth-place University of Chicago with 109 and fifth-place UW-Stout with 170.

Completing the list of top 10 teams were sixth-place UW-Eau Claire with 192, UW-Oshkosh, eighth-place UW-Whitewater with 206, ninth-place Wheaton College (Ill.) with 264 and 10th-place UW-Stevens Point with 292.

North Central College entered the meet ranked first in the nation by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association while Washington University in St. Louis ranked eighth, University of Chicago 10th, UW-La Crosse 13th, UW-Stout 31st and UW-Eau Claire 33rd.

The top two teams from Saturday's meet, North Central College and UW-La Crosse, earned automatic berths to the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held Nov. 23 in Louisville, Ky. Sixteen other teams from the nation's eight total regions will be awarded at-large bids on Sunday (Nov. 17). After the at-large bids have been awarded, the top seven individual finishers from each region, not on one of the qualifying teams, will also earn an invitation to the national championship.
