Howard Named WIAC Cross Country Athlete Of The Week

The WIAC selected UW-Oshkosh's Charlend Howard as its Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for meets held Sept. 5-11.

Howard ranked sixth among 163 runners to help UW-Oshkosh open its 2016 season with a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Open held Sept. 10 in Somers.

Howard, who finished 13th in last year's meet, completed this year's 8,000-meter race in a time of 25:54. He was the lone UW-Oshkosh runner to place in the top 20.

Alec Miller of NCAA Division I Marquette University captured the individual title with a time of 25:42, while Caleb Abfall of NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee finished second in 25:44.

Marquette University won the 12-team meet with 41 points, while NCAA Division II UW-Parkside finished second with 50, UW-Milwaukee third with 92 and UW-Oshkosh fourth with 113.
