Titans Finish Seventh At NCAA Regional

Jordan Carpenter placed fifth and UW-Oshkosh finished seventh at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Midwest Regional held Saturday (Nov. 15) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Carpenter completed the 8,000 meter course in a time of 24:13, earning one of the seven automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Championship on Nov. 22 in Mason, Ohio. Carpenter placed 47th at last year's NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.

Andrew Padgett of Washington University (Mo.) was the Midwest Regional champion. Padgett paced the field of 265 runners in a time of 23:56. Padgett finished 17th at last year's Regional.

Alex Ciesielski of UW-La Crosse finished second with a time of 24:05, four seconds ahead of his WIAC counterpart, Josh Thorson of UW-Eau Claire. Aaron Sebhat of North Central College (Ill.) placed fourth in a time of 24:10.

In addition to Carpenter, four other Titans finished in the top 60. Joe Zack was 32nd for UW-Oshkosh with a time of 25:05, while Charlend Howard placed 36th in 25:10, Roberto Lara 51st in 25:27, and Mike Foust 60th in 25:35.

Also competing for UW-Oshkosh were Tyler Miletti and Ryne Scopp. Miletti finished 62nd in a time of 25:36, while Scopp was 68th in 25:45. Scopp finished 51st at last year's Regional meet.

North Central College captured its seventh straight Midwest Regional team title with 51 points and earned one of two automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Championship. All seven of the North Central College competitors finished in the top 20.  

In second place was UW-Eau Claire with 108 points, which earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Not far behind in third place was UW-La Crosse with 110 points. In fourth place was Washington University (Mo.) with 135 and in fifth place was UW-Stout with 158. Washington University finished second at last year's Midwest Regional meet.

Rounding out the top 10 were sixth-place UW-Platteville with 171 points, eighth-place UW-Stevens Point with 220, ninth-place University of Chicago (Ill.) with 252 and 10th-place Augustana College (Ill.) with 266.

Last year, the WIAC placed 5 teams in the top 10 at the Midwest Regional meet. This year, the WIAC placed 6 teams in the top 10 as UW-Stevens Point joined UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stout, and UW-Platteville.
