Titans Place Fourth At WIAC Championship

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire captured the title at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Cross Country Championship at Ettrick Golf Course on Nov. 1.

The Blugolds claimed their second championship trophy in program history - and first since 1980 - with 36 points to surpass the second-place total of two-time defending champion UW-La Crosse.  UW-Platteville finished third with 99 points, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 106, UW-Stout fifth with 124, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 142, UW-Whitewater seventh with 191, UW-Superior eighth with 221 and UW-River Falls ninth with 264.

UW-Eau Claire's Josh Thorson captured the individual title, completing the 8,000-meter course in 24:24.50.  He is the third individual in program archives to win the league crown, joining Dan Stack (1980 and 1981) and Jason Finch (1998).  A total of 98 runners completed this year's race.

UW-Eau Claire's Ryan Mugan placed second in 24:31.70, UW-Oshkosh's Jordan Carpenter third in 24:36.60, UW-La Crosse's Alex Ciesielski fourth in 24:40.10, UW-Platteville's Ian Lamere fifth in 24:40.90, UW-Eau Claire's Christian Leitner sixth in 24:43.80 and UW-Platteville's Joel Walden seventh in 24:53.60.

UW-La Crosse's Jonah Weisse took eighth in 24:54.90, UW-Eau Claire's Darin Lau ninth in 24:59.00, UW-La Crosse's Tom Linner 10th in 25:05.00, UW-La Crosse's Garrett Kerska 11th in 25:07.30, UW-Stout's Tony Cass 12th in 25:12.70, UW-Whitewater's Dawson Miller 13th in 25:18.90 and UW-La Crosse's Nate Routhier 14th in 25:19.50.

UW-Stout's Patrick Jenkins was 15th in 25:19.80, UW-Stevens Point's Michael Evans 16th in 25:30.20, UW-Stout's Devin Sauvola 17th in 25:35.40, UW-Eau Claire's Steven Schimmel 18th in 25:36.80, UW-Eau Claire's Erik Rosvold 19th in 25:36.90 and UW-Oshkosh's Joe Zack 20th in 25:38.00.

The top seven runners received All-WIAC first team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earned All-WIAC second team accolades.  Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claimed honorable mention laurels.

UW-La Crosse's Nate Routhier received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
