Carpenter Leads Titans To 10th-Place AAE Invitational Finish

Jordan Carpenter placed fourth and host UW-Oshkosh 10th at the AAE Men's Cross Country Invitational held Saturday (Oct. 18) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

Carpenter completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:40. His performance was just one second behind the third-place time (24:39) of UW-Parkside's Evan Lewandowski.

Alan Peterson of Grand Valley State University (Mich.) was the meet's individual champion. He defeated 663 other runners with his time of 24:32.

Troy Kelleher of North Central College (Ill.) finished second with a time of 24:35 and Josh Thorson of UW-Eau Claire fifth in 24:43.

In addition to Carpenter, UW-Oshkosh had five other runners earn a mention among the top 120 listings. Joe Zack was 65th for the Titans with a time of 25:34, while Charlend Howard finished 67th in 25:35, Roberto Lara 104th in 15:54, Mike Foust 109th in 25:55 and Tyler Miletti 119th in 25:58.

The Titans also had Erik Hofferber finish 144th in 26:10, Ryne Scopp 209th in 26:38, Trevor Damkot 246th in 26:53, Nate Meints 247th in 26:53, Luke Hill 251st in 26:56 and Luke Geffers 300th in 27:14.

Other UW-Oshkosh participants were Nathan Nozzi, Daniel Massey, Derrick Rufer, Jordan Black, Charlie Scott, Casey Karpin and Kyle Peotter. Nozzi finished 428th in 28:15, Massey 433rd in 28:19, Rufer 444th in 28:25, Black 451st in 28:30, Scott 455th in 28:45, Karpin 552nd in 30:00 and Peotter 569th in 30:33.

North Central College, the top-ranked NCAA Division III squad in the country, won the team title with 36 points. NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University finished second with 69 points and NCAA Division III UW-Eau Claire third with 140. NCAA Division II schools Augustana College (S.D.) and UW-Parkside placed fourth with 154 points and fifth with 181 points, respectively.

Completing the list of top-10 teams were sixth-place Lewis University (Ill.) with 229 points, seventh-place Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 238, eighth-place Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) with 258, ninth-place Wabash College (Ind.) with 280 and 10th-place UW-Oshkosh with 288.

This year's AAE Invitational, formerly called the Brooks Invitational, featured 45 men's and 42 women's teams from a total of 12 different states (Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin).

The next competition for the Titans is Friday (Oct. 24) at the UW-Oshkosh Open. The meet will be held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
