Carpenter First, Titans Second At Roy Griak Invitational

Jordan Carpenter ran to the individual title as the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country team finished second at the Roy Griak Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 27) in Falcon Heights, Minn.

Carpenter completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:56 to pace the field of 235 competitors. He defeated runner-up Alex Ciesielski of UW-La Crosse by 10 seconds (26:06).

"This is my first major victory in cross country, so it's very meaningful," Carpenter said. "I just love this race. We come here every year and have traditionally done well. It's just an awesome experience."

Jonah Weisse of UW-La Crosse finished third with a time of 26:31, while Thomas Feichtinger of Saint John's University (Minn.) placed fourth in 26:48, Chase Moser of Wartburg College (Iowa) fifth in 26:55 and Tyler Miletti of UW-Oshkosh sixth in 27:01.

UW-La Crosse won the meet that featured 17 teams with 43 points, while UW-Oshkosh finished a close second with 46. The rest of the top five squads included third-place Wartburg College with 82 points, fourth-place Saint John's University with 124 and fifth-place Hamline University (Minn.) with 127.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place Macalester College (Minn.) with 184 points, seventh-place UW-River Falls with 229, eighth-place Augsburg College (Minn.) with 254, ninth-place Concordia University Wisconsin with 291 and 10th-place Lawrence University with 295.

In addition to Carpenter and Miletti, UW-Oshkosh also received team scoring from the pack running of Joe Zack, Charlend Howard and Mike Foust. Zack finished 12th with a time of 27:14, while Howard placed 13th in 27:15 and Foust 14th in 27:18.

The Titans also had Roberto Lara finish 31st n 28:17, Nate Meints 40th in 28:34, Luke Hill 41st in 28:36, Mitch Pauers 61st in 29:13, Trevor Damkot 62nd in 29:17, Ryne Scopp 80th in 29:46 and Justin Skinkis 93rd in 30:13.

UW-Oshkosh competes Friday (Oct. 3) at another prestigious meet, the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. UW-Oshkosh runners not participating in that meet will perform Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Lawrence University Invitational.
