Four Titans Collect USTFCCCA All-Academic Award

UW-Oshkosh had four members of its men's track & field team gather All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Named to the organization's NCAA Division III All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 season were UW-Oshkosh's John Auer, Jamyle Brantley, Zachary Emmer and Nick Freitag.

The USTFCCCA honored 462 student-athletes for their academic and athletic accomplishments, including Emmer who was recognized for the second straight year.

Auer, a freshman, owns a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a supply chain management major. The Oregon High School graduate placed 19th in the long jump (21-2 3/4) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in Boston, Mass.

Brantley possesses a 3.34 cumulative GPA as a freshman marketing major. The Green Bay East High School alumna finished 11th in the long jump (22-7 3/4) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship. He also ranked 48th nationally in the outdoor long (23-0 1/2) this past season.

Emmer holds a 3.57 cumulative GPA as a junior psychology major. The Fond du Lac High School graduate ranked 41st nationally in the indoor pole vault (14-11) this past year.

Freitag, a senior, has a 3.39 cumulative GPA as a kinesiology major. The Green Bay Preble High School graduate finished 18th in the 800-meter run (1:55.48) and 11th in the 1,600-meter relay (3:20.69) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship. Freitag also placed 15th in the 800-meter run (1:53.10) and ninth in the 1,600-meter relay (disqualified in final) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in Geneva, Ohio.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA's Track & Field All-Academic Team, student-athletes must own a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have either competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 of an individual event or in the national top 35 of a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order list.

The USTFCCCA selected Zach Lee of UW-Platteville as its Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Dhruvil Patel of North Central College (Ill.) as its Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year; and Will Daniels of Central College (Iowa) as its Indoor & Outdoor Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

UW-La Crosse owned a division-high 20 All-Academic award winners while Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) had 16 honorees, Massachusetts Institute of Technology 14 and Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) 13.

UW-Oshkosh and its seven other WIAC associates combined for 60 All-Academic selections.

UW-La Crosse (3.17 GPA) was named the USTFCCCA's Men's Scholar Team of the Year for the indoor season and UW-Eau Claire (3.18) for the outdoor season.

California Institute of Technology recorded the highest cumulative GPA with its 3.69 mark. The Beavers edged runner-up Middlebury College (Vt.) by .009 (3.681 GPA).

In order to be in contention for the Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
