Four All-American Performances Lead Titans To Ninth-Place NCAA Finish

UW-Oshkosh's Ryan Powers claimed two All-America awards, and Robert Ogbuli and Jonathan Wilburn added All-America performances of their own as the Titans finished ninth at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 8-9) in Boston, Mass.

Powers placed third in the 400-meter run, breaking his own school record with a time of 47.80 seconds. He also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 to become the program's first All-American in the event.

Powers, the 2019 Division III Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year, is an indoor All-American for the fourth time. He placed sixth in the 400-meter run at both the 2016 and 2018 national meets.

Ogbuli and Wilburn are All-Americans for the first time with fifth-place efforts in the 60-meter dash and triple jump, respectively. Ogbuli finished the 60-meter final in 6.91 after setting a season-best time of 6.88 in the preliminaries. Wilburn recorded a distance of 48-4 in the triple jump.

UW-Oshkosh was also represented at the Division III Championship by Nick Freitag, Steven Potter and Justin Skinkis in the 800-meter run; Justin Rivers in the high jump; Joe Vils in the pole vault; John Auer, Jamyle Brantley, Roman Hill and Benjamin Jung in the long jump; and Freitag, Skinkis, Todd Beadle and Amitai Wheat in the 1,600-meter relay.

In the 800-meter run, Potter led the Titans with a ninth-place run of 1:53.34 while Freitag placed 18th in 1:55.48 and Skinkis 20th in 2:00.63.

Hill paced the UW-Oshkosh quartet in the long jump with a 10th-place distance of 22-8. Brantley finished 11th in the event with a top leap of 22-7 3/4, Jung was 13th at 22-5 and Auer placed 19th at 21-2 3/4.

Vils' top clearance of 15-7 in the pole vault earned a ninth-place finish. Rivers was 14th in the high jump with a height of 6-5 1/2.

Completing the Titan results was an 11th-place showing by the 1,600-meter relay team with its time of 3:20.69.

Individual event winners at the Division III Championship included Kai Cole from Wesley College (Del.) in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80, Corey Carter from Principia College (Ill.) in the 200-meter dash in 21.52, Patrick Mikel from Loras College (Iowa) in the 400-meter run in 47.52, Kyler Lueck from UW-Eau Claire in the 800-meter run in 1:49.60, David Lembke from Carroll University in the high jump with a clearance of 7-0 1/2, Luke Winder from North Central College (Ill.) in the pole vault with a height of 17-4 1/2, Hayden Snow from John Carroll University (Ohio) in the long jump with a distance of 24-10, and Yorai Shaoul from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the triple jump with a mark of 49-11 1/4.

Mikel's 400-meter time and Lueck's 800-meter time set championship records. Winder became the division's first four-time indoor champion in any event.

University of Mount Union (Ohio) won the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:14.79.

North Central College won its sixth team title handily with 55 points to easily outdistance defending national champion University of Mount Union's and 2017 co-champion UW-La Crosse's second-place totals of 39. North Central College and UW-La Crosse shared the 2017 title.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were UW-Eau Claire in fourth place with 29 points, UW-Platteville and Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) in fifth with 27, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in seventh with 22, Loras College in eighth with 21, UW-Oshkosh in ninth with 17 and UW-Stevens Point in 10th with 16.
