Titans Preside Over Twilight Invitational Opponents In Big Way

UW-Oshkosh owned the top five competitors in four events and the top four participants in two to easily rule the list of performances at the Titan Twilight Men's & Field Invitational it hosted Friday (Jan. 18) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh won all but three of the non-scoring meet's 15 events as it returned to action for the first time since competing at the Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Holiday Invitational on Dec. 7.

Friday's meet involved participants from Lake Forest College (Ill.), Lakeland University and Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The Titans swept the top five mentions on Friday in the mile run, triple jump, shot put and 35-pound weight throw and the top four rankings in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump. UW-Oshkosh also possessed four of the top five contestants in the pole vault.

Noah O'Neill won the mile run with a time of 4:30.27 while Noah Bruehl finished second in 4:31.21, Andrew Rathkamp third in 4:36.27, Skyler Yunk fourth in 4:36.41 and Spencer Muffler fifth in 4:40.21.

The triple jump had Jonathan Wilburn place first with a distance of 47-5 3/4, Jamyle Brantley second at 45-2 1/2, Adam Tallman third at 44-9 3/4, Jared Ollhoff fourth at 43-3 and Jared Benson fifth at 43-2 1/2.

In the shot put, Jackson Sheckler won the event with a throw of 49-11 1/4. He was followed by second-place Nick Tegtmeier at 48-1 1/4, third-place Bailey Quinn at 42-8 1/4, Jason Myrick at 38-6 and Seth Schilling at 37-3 1/4.

Quinn went on to win the 35-pound weight throw with a measurement of 53-2 3/4. Myrick finished second at 47-9 1/4, Tegtmeier third at 41-8 1/2, Sheckler fourth at 40-11 and Schilling fifth at 40-2.

The winner of the 60-meter hurdles was Abel Christiansen. He ran to a time of 8.49 seconds and was followed by second-place Avery Van Zee in 8.80, third-place Kunmi Olatunde in 8.94 and Darquise Winters in 9.24.

Roman Hill won the long jump with a leap of 23-0 3/4 while Benjamin Jung finished second at 22-5 3/4 and Brantley and Devin Moody third at 21-11 3/4.

Cade Ellenbecker led the Titans with his second-place height of 13-5 in the pole vault. He was followed by Van Zee's third-place leap of 9-11 3/4, Winter's fourth-place height of 9-1 3/4 and Michael Hartman's fifth-place mark of 9-1 3/4.

Other event winners for UW-Oshkosh were Jung in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.43 seconds, Moody in the high jump with a height of 6-4 3/4, Amitai Wheat in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.15 seconds, Nick Engels in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.90 and Michael Juarez in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.68.

The Titans also won the 1,600-meter relay as Van Zee, Wheat, Todd Beadle and Nick Freitag posted a time of 3:24.34.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place results belonged to Freitag in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.30 seconds and Winters and Justin Rivers in the high jump with marks of 6-2 3/4.

Titan Denzel Thomas added a pair of third-place mentions with his times of 7.18 and 22.99 seconds in the 60- and 200-meter dashes, respectively. 

Other UW-Oshkosh fourth-place finishes went to Beadle in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.25 seconds, Hartman in the high jump with a height of 4-11 and Ryan Powers in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds.

The Titans also had Christiansen finish fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.38 seconds and Justin Skinkis fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:58.37.

UW-Oshkosh will compete at Carthage College's Tadd Metzger Invitational next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) in Kenosha.
