Titans Have Two Event Winners At UW-Platteville Invitational

Bailey Quinn won the hammer throw and Erik Schwandt the 100-meter dash for UW-Oshkosh at the UW-Platteville Men's Track & Field Invitational held Thursday (April 12).

Quinn defeated 32 other contestants in the hammer throw with his winning distance of 182-11, which ranks ninth in the NCAA Division III this outdoor season. University of Dubuque's (Iowa) Blaze Murfin finished second to Quinn with a measurement of 178-2.

Schwandt outran 45 other participants in the 100-meter dash with his first-place time of 10.81 seconds. He narrowly captured the victory as UW-La Crosse's Josh Koenecke placed second in the event with a time of 10.82.

UW-Oshkosh's Devan Gertschen placed in three events, including the pole vault where he recorded a second-place height of 16-4 3/4. He also finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 21-6 and sixth in the javelin with a throw of 157-10. Unattached Matt Dwyer won the pole vault with a measurement of 16-9 1/4 while Gertschen's mark ranks fourth in the country this outdoor season.

The Titans also received a second-place skip of 41-9 1/4 in the triple jump from Jared Benson and a third-place mark of 150-11 in the discus from Jack Flynn. UW-Whitewater's Eric Neuenschwander won the triple jump with a performance of 42-11 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh had five fourth-place listings, including a pair from Ryan Powers. Powers sprinted to times of 11.13 and 21.85 in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, respectively. 

Other fourth-place results belonged to the Titans' Zachary Emmer and Bryce Mancheski. Emmer earned a height of 15-0 1/4 in the pole vault while Mancheski registered a distance of 22-3 in the long jump.

The Titans' 400-meter relay team of Mancheski, Bailey Gesteland, Josh Jennerjohn and Jack Ribley also finished fourth with their time of 43.32.

UW-Oshkosh's Joe Vils placed fifth and Mitchell Hasey sixth in the pole vault with their heights of 15-0 1/4 and 14-6 1/4, respectively.

The Titans owned a pair of ninth-place finishes as Nick Freitag completed the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.62 and Michael Juarez the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:15.84.

Joe Zack and Noah Bruehl both finished 10th for UW-Oshkosh with their times of 1:55.78 and 4:16.05 in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, respectively.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

UW-Oshkosh will compete next Thursday (April 19) and Friday (April 20) at the UW-La Crosse's Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse.
